Buy it, old Aussie falcons run the 35 as well.
I've got many parts for '63-'64 if you get stuck.

I can get the bits here or even a complete v8 car from Horopito wreckers ,they have a few ramblers there, thing is I just found out that the engine has 2 inch box section spacers under the mounts ,thinking is it  supposed to be a 196 ?? originally ,is there a difference in the flexplate  from a 196 and 232?

IIRC the 2 flex plates are the same but the 232 has a larger Dia. ring gear on the converter.

Although they are the same bolt pattern the bell housings are different and the torque converters are different. You could have either. If you have the 196 bell housing the starter holes would have been moved down the circumference about 3/8" If you park the two torque converters side by side the 232 is larger diameter, at least in the ring gear.

Nice looking car.

I was just thinking how nice it would be to put it on a boat and ship it here. Do you know what plant the SW was made in?

The rear band IS used in "D1" where the car starts in first gear. In the first Drive position (D2) the car starts in 2nd gear, so the rear band isn't used. Most with any knowledge of how the trans works put it in D1 for normal driving instead of D2 for a bit better performance.

The theory in the day was to get it in high gear as soon as possible for better gas mileage. Autos had torque converters that multiplied torque in the 2:1 to 3:1 range and manuals (three speeds all, T-10 didn't come out until around 64, all other four speeds of the day were heavy truck trannys) had lower rear axle ratios. For cruising longer distances it does work, but do a lot of in-town driving and you'll get about the same gas mileage with less strain on the engine by using D1, and it will feel just a little peppier. I do mean a little... by 15 mph it's shifting into second anyway, unless you have your foot all the way to the floor, then it might make 25 mph before shifting...

The rear band is not used in D1.  In Low range the rear band causes 1st gear to brake the car with the engine.  In D1 1st gear is free wheeling.
