Wow! At 1:36 the guy crashes and all you can see is his feet when the car comes to a rest.  Thats some pretty good stuff.

Being a fan of auto racing, it is amazing to watch how many of the drivers walked away from these crashes, even without the benefit of safety equipment.  Although the speeds back then were not what they are now, it shows how much safety advances and car construction have changed over the years.

It took a different breed to race back then.

with an open top and no roll bar, not sure a seat belt would the the thing to have, would rather be ejected then stuck in place with a car on top of me.

I don't know if i'd want to be ejected onto the track with the other cars.

Plus I remember one of the local accidents with a unbelted driver,  he ended up under his own car.

They just didn't have the option to know any better.  Scary to us though.

Ever watch a SIDECAR bike race?
Those guys in the side cars are still hanging their arses out in the wind!
Hi-tech suits and good helmets is all that gets between them and blacktop!
All the bike racers really are still hanging it out there.

I've seen one of those before- those guys are nuts!

Of course, like you said, any motorcycle racer is the same. Watch the way those guys get thrown in a wreck.

Good music in that video, too.
