Greetings

I was wondering if someone could help answer a question about these heads.
First off, I don't know squat about this stuff, so I am at your mercy.

Anyway, I want to try a pair of these for my 69 390.

What I'm trying to understand are the differences in the two models Edelbrock sells.

One is Edelbrock#350-60119 and has NO Exhaust Crossover Port

The other is Edelbrock#350-60139 and has the Exhaust Crossover Port

What exactly is the advantage of one over the other ? Which would be the smarter choice performance-wise ?

Thanks for any help !!!

If you are a race person then you need NO heat crossover in the engine. If you are running a street STOCK engine then you may choose to run the heat crossover style. It was ment to warm the manifold and carb for better running when cold. That's about it in a nut shell. If you have a heat riser valve in your exhaust system then you will have exhaust pushing across the manifold until the bi-metal spring at the exhaust manifold opens up.

They are exactly the same except for the crossover. The crossover is obviously drilled not cast in. I didn't want the crossover, but got a screaming deal on a set WITH the crossover. The hole was the perfect diameter to tap it with a 3/8" NPT tap and I plugged them with aluminum 3/8 pipe plugs. If I ever decide that I need the crossover, all I have to do it remove the plugs.

Are you going to run it in cold weather?
If not, get em blocked.

As a summer car and weekend street warrior you are better off with them blocked.

Mine are blocked and with my chocked carb I have no issues without them.

Either way, pull them apart and clean the heads good.
I have seen some have metal shavings in the ports and they where unbowed by myself.

As said it helps heat the intake and carb when it is cool out.

If it is cool & damp you may get carb icing with out it too.
Might be more so it you don't use an air filer housing that has the heat tube from the exh. manifold to heat in coming air.

Also if your carb uses a heat tube for the choke you will need it too.

Thanks guys, I sincerely appreciate the help. Now I can say I know what the port is for.

Are the Indy heads still available ?

Opinions on those ?

Dunno about the Indy heads, they are supposed to be very good but there are parts interchangability issues.

As to carb icing, yes I have done that.
On a cold (below freezing) humid day I have a nasty large ball of ice form
on the inlet of the carb (s).

Indy heads are an excellent option, more suited for cubes and some rpm.

Out of the box they are not that good and require a fair bit of porting to make them work well but when done you will have a great cylinder head.

If you are looking for a bolt on and go the Edelbrock heads are best.
I would go without heat risers for any application.
