I've just got around to installing my rebuilt Saginaw power steering box in my 67 Ambassador. The rag joint came off the temporary steering box rather easily but I've found that to reinstall it back on the rebuilt box that it's tight and I have to tap it down on the input shaft. The clamp bolt is out of it. Is this normal or should it just slip right down on the splines ?

Wasnt there two different shafts between 6cyl and v8, or between change over years?

The rag joint coupling may be spread out more with prying between the open ends, but may have alignment issues with bolt fit.

Yes it is a tight fit. BTW...make sure your steering wheel is in the right position on the column side coupler you will take it back apart. Ask me how I know

Got it back together, oriented correctly. Thanks for the tip though. I see that the two 180 degree apart attaching bolts are two different diameters.
