What do you guys do on the cars that came with a space saver spare, meaning no other spare fits in the bracket or between the sheet metal sides? With the prices and availability of those units, it isn't realistic to need to put one to use if you get a flat out on the road on a car being used more of a driver than a show car. I assume once they are inflated, they are not reusable again? I've actually never had to use one. Are there other inflator bottles that are cheap and readily available?...Any other Ford space savers spares that can be used that are realistically priced? I know compact spares for many years now have been fairly thin but larger diameter. Those don't fit either...? Thanks, Walt ------------- '68 Rebel SST coupe. I wouldn't rust one as a spare, WAY to old. Depending on the car you can get a bracket for the full size spare and mount that with a new full size tire. ------------- Tony Vancouver, BC 1970 AMX 1972 Badassador AMO#10333 |

AMC 5-Bolt Lug pattern is close to some Ford 5-Bolt. Any junk yards in your area to dig around in? ? Maybe Ford Mustang Aluminum "doughnut space-saver Spares" ( whether 15 or 16" rim and 4 or 5-lug ) from '87-'04 are about 24" tall. The full-size Ford car spares (Crown Victoria, Marquis, Lincoln, etc.) are about 25" tall. After '02 the diameter goes up a bit, but offset is much higher. They will still bolt on and function, but will sit deeper in the wheel well. Typical aluminum full-size car aluminum spare. They are often painted black, so just pick them up to tell if they are steel or not. Aluminum is about 1/2 the weight. Understanding is the "doughnut" rim has a standard bead they are just only maybe a 4 inch wide rim... Back in the day was a cheap way to get cheap front skinnies.

Agreed! Don't even try it. Most new cars just come with a can of fix-a-flat - you have to pay extra for a spare (if that is even an available option). A plug kit, couple of fix-a-flat cans, and a AAA card is all I carry.
