I need to change the ring and pinion gear on an AMC 20. Any recommendations on what brand to get? I'm looking for the quietest and hopefully made in the US.

I've used Yukon gears with success.  Definitely use Ratech for shim kits.  They're the only supplier with the correct diameter pinion shims.

If you haven't done a gear setup, definitely study it and make sure you have the right tools.  It's not as easy as a bolt in.  .005" in adjustment can make the difference between noisy and quiet gears.  Someone here made a great video (available on CD) of a Model 20 gear setup procedure.

If you need a tool and don't buy it...
you'll eventually pay for it...
and not have it.

Thanks, I gave up trying to do it myself, that's how I screwed up the first set. I'm going to take it to a garage nearby that is familiar with AMC 20's.

A while back there was a thread, I think maybe in cheers/jeers, about issues with new R&Ps so definitely search for that before you buy

Thanks for posting the thread but now after reading it I don't know what to do. I guess my only option is to buy gears that don't fit right since there is really only one manufacture making them.  I wish now I had of swapped it out for a dana or ford axle but I've put too much money into it.

It really depends on the gear ratio. Jeeps have far more parts but not "highway" gears unless you have overdrive:

Your right, it's harder because my ratio is 3.31. Alloy USA doesn't make it.
