I buy all my core plugs from S&K speed on Long Island...They sell them individually...The kits for an AMC are never complete

is this the right plug?

https://www.dormanproducts.com/p-26342-565-018.aspx" rel="nofollow - https://www.dormanproducts.com/p-26342-565-018.aspx

It says it’s for a intake and noncompatible for the 258. However, it reads as if it would work..

This is WHY a completed, nice, clean, well done, good running AMC is so "respectable"... Thumbs Up

Try Jeep searches. There is Dorman 557-017 or 567-017 for a 258/4.2 engine.

These kits all contain the same size plugs like the one I purchased. I’m needing the two smaller plugs to complete it. The local auto parts shops have no idea
This really should be elementary

can't you just buy generic Dorman plugs? by size? there's nothing special about the AMC here.

Understand,  but most manufacturers don’t provide the specs such as plug depth and actual OD. However, I was able to clean the original up enough to get the numbers , EPC16B and it crosses over to a Dorman 565-018.
Hope that simplifies if for someone else

Online it looks like the freeze plug kits for the 1987-up 4.0 include the smaller plugs.

NowI have the all the correct freeze plugs and ready for the installation . Has anyone tried putting the brass plugs in the freezer prior to installing for easier installation?

installed and placing the plugs  in a freezer for a couple hours before installation made it a lot easier.

Late reply, but for anyone coming across this issue of finding expansion plugs, i have wonderful news!

The Enginetech PK256B (or PK256 for steel) kit doesnt list the AMC 258 vehicles as compatible, even on EngineTech's website, but I ordered one for my '96 Cherokee 4.0L, and discovered it included all correctly sized plugs for my '87 Wrangler 4.2L's engine im rebuilding. Kit has 5 brass 2" plugs, 2 brass 1" plugs, 1 steel 2.14" plug for oil gallery, and 3 of the smaller threaded plugs. It's almost as if it was made for the AMC 258 :-)

I got my on RockAuto.com for $12, just had to look it up under 1996 Cherokee 4.0L since the vehicle compatibility isnt correct.
