I know that 2020 seems like a ways off yet, and it may be for some of us.
But, for some of us like me it's not that far off. (it's funny how time seems to fly the older you get) Confused
I've heard that they want as many Gremlins there as possible as it will be the 50th year for the Gremlin.
I plan on being there, with mine. Even though my Gremlin is still on the rotisserie and still in primer, and as far as way as possible from a driving car, I am going to be there. Come he!! or high water. I am going to be there with my Gremlin.
This is one thing that is on my "bucket list".
My question is has there been any dates set...???
April 1st. is the birthday for the Gremlin, but to me that seems like it might be awfully early for the show, but in all actuality it does seem appropriate.
Just curious if anyone knows anything about Kenosha in 2020.
Thanks..!!
William

It's usually the week leading up to the last weekend in July, so most likely it will be Monday July 20th thru Saturday July 25th. I know they have a few things during the week, but I always show up on Friday morning and by Friday afternoon most cars are there.

Give's me a little bit more time to "Getter Done"...

My contract says no parties, so we will have to have one on the last night so then they can kick me out! Bring your lawn chair.
No parking the trailer at a hotel this time.

I have a transporter in the Mpls area that will ship 2 cars to Kenosha for the 2020 show. I was going to have my car shipped and thought I had another guy committed, but he had to back out due to financial reasons.
So, I'm asking if there anybody in the Minneapolis area that needs transport to Kenosha, next year? He gave me a very good round trip price of $850, each.
Please drop me a line at rsguh@usfamily.net if you are interested. I have use his transport in the past and he is very careful.

Wow - that is an epic adventure in the making.  Hopefully you can make the AMO meet in Colorado Springs, CO as well!  Colorado is Eagle country - so you'd be in good company....

At this point I don't think we can make AMO.

We are aiming to arrive approx. 17 July, Collect the cars from Oklahoma and head North to Kenosha.
After the show, we head East to Pennsylvania, then South through the various States till we get to the top of Florida, then head West to Houston ……….. approx. 4000 miles in 4 weeks ................. my poor little Gremlin will need a good sleep after that

I'm planning on going, have no idea what - if anything - I'll be able to take.
Worst case scenario, I'll just blast across 5 (or 6?) states in my Mustang GT.  For fun, we could start a betting pool to see how many speeding tickets I get.

If my friend with the big diesel and trailer decides he wasn't kidding about coming and trailering a car, we could bring my Humpster.

Sadly, I did get some bad news yesterday and that is my Gremlin won't be able to get into the body shop for it's much needed paint and body work now until spring.  Whether or not Mr. Bodyman can get her done by June or July is unknown.  So, I'm not putting any money on that, as much as I wanted to bring it.

So, I do have options, but we'll only know as the date comes closer. I still would like to meet up with many of you, kiss some hands and shake some babies.

After hearing from a number of people on how nice a show this is, I booked a room yesterday. My wife is going to pass but Woosterkevin is going with me. I generally stay away from all AMC shows but I've been told this one's different so we'll give it a shot. Hoping to meet some members and see their rides/projects.

Awesome!  I can't wait!!

Yes, I expect to drive my '72 up.  I'll probably show it in the display-only class.  It started out a couple years ago as a well-worn but rust free beater.  I've been fixing it up little by little but it's still quite a way from being a show car.  Dan Curtis is building me a 360 for it, but the original 304 still runs well so I may just put the 360 away until I blow the old one up.

That's great that you're driving it! Thumbs Up The road trip should be fun let alone the show. I'm pretty excited about this as well.

I don't believe there's a host hotel. I didn't see any mentioned anywhere. Quite a few places are already booked and some are close to it. I pm'ed you where I found one for a decent price.

Here is the answer...

Hi Rick,

We have not announced the schedule of events for the 2020 Kenosha Homecoming Car Show yet. What I can tell you is that there will be cruise nights starting Tuesday, July 21 and running all week. There will be a series of additional events that we will announce once everything has been confirmed. The announcement will be made on social media and also on our website. We will be sending press releases to news outlets as well as sending the schedule to each car club that we are aware of.

Thanks for your inquiry, we hope to see you this July!

No, trying to figure out when to bring my trailer full of parts.  Here is another email from him.

The swap meet starts Friday around 8am and usually wraps up that afternoon (if I remember correctly, in 2017 we had vendors selling until around 5-6 PM). The swap meet continues Saturday as a part the big car show (they take place simultaneously at Kennedy Park).

Just made reservations at a hotel that is about 9 miles away from the lakefront action but is reasonably priced and has great access to my car from the room.  The Stella Hotel, albeit pricy, is very close to the lakefront action.  My question is, for anyone that may have stayed at the Stella, how is the access to your car directly from your room?  I mean I want to be able to see it from my window as well as fairly quickly go down to it for detailing, ect.

I'm seriously considering making the trek (sans AMC). What I would want it to do is see the vendors and the main show. The event website does not break down the schedule. What are the dates I should be there?

The preliminary plan is to cross the border at Blue Water Bridge, drive through Michigan, and cross the lake on the ferry, because that seems like a cool trip.

In addition to the vendors on the field, look for the yard sales.  There are a bunch of folks in the community with parts.  Surprising what made its way into Kenosha barns and garages over the years.

Three years ago I flew into Minneapolis and drove to Kenosha on Thursday. I think I went to six Garage sales that day, tons of stuff you may never see anywhere else. I think the swap meet was Friday and Saturday show was Saturday. Lots more to do and see but if you need to pick and choose I would be there for at least that.

Yard sales are usually Wednesday and Thursday. Most of the people that have the yard sales set up at the show as vendors on Friday and Saturday.

We quit the garage sales. The prices on the parts just felt high. The selection was picked over or hidden until the main swap on the weekend.Try it and check it out if you can.

I look at garage sales but only occasionally find a good deal on something I need. The sales give me something to do during the day and they are an opportunity to visit with others.

Just do the WHOLE week Ross. You won't regret it!

The 1st year we went, we rolled in on Thursday afternoon to hit the cruise night. It was BARELY enough time to do the yard sales and swap meet on the Friday. Especially after being bagged from the 15 hour drive the previous day.

The next year, we did the drive in a day on Tuesday and had a ton more fun with lots of time to take in all of the yard sales, cruises and other associated events.

Don't short-change on time is my advice.

Chuck.

Thanks Chuck, so it was 15 hours straight through from Prescott? I am looking at taking the ferry, just because, which means I have to get to the eastern terminus at a certain time. I may have to overnight somewhere  in between to achieve this.

Yeah, 15 hours +/- in the Hornet at 70-75MPH’ish. Google Maps says 1300kms. Factor in gas and Timmy’s stops and potential traffic snarls and it’s about 14-15hrs. Ymmv. ;)

I considered the ferry, also “just because”, but haven’t done it. I think if I were to do it, I’d take it on the way home when I could nail down departure timing by being MUCH closer...?

Driving Tips for Travellers from Eastern Ontario:

Take the 401/402 straight through The Big Smoke on the way down. Traffic is pretty good at 10:00AM in Toronto. Pay the $30 and take the FULL 407 (on at Cambridge I think? Off at Whitby) coming home. Saves an hour at least.

Sarnia is better than Detroit for border times.

Take the 294 and avoid downtown Chicago. You DON’T want to go there. :D

Hotels near the Interstate are a great option and are a quick trip to all events. Racine Hotels are also an option. We stayed in Racine in 2014 because we waited too long to book. They’re a bit less expensive but increase driving times to events (15-20mins) and have less tailgating options. I suppose an Uber to-and-from the action is a viable option. We stayed at The Comfort Inn Suites in 2017 and have booked it again this year.

I stayed there for Kenosha 2002. It was sketchy even then.

Does anyone have any reviews on the LaQuinta? It is across the street from the Super 8.

Well, now that I'm unemployed, I might as well try my hardest.  Still unsure if I'm bringing the Gremlin....
Crossing 7 states in July with no A/C?  I'm getting too old for those kind of adventures.  Prob'ly bringing the Mustang.  This will be my first Kenosha.  Where's everybody staying so I can try and connect with the most folks? Cool

I've found it's easier to call or text folks if you can get phone numbers before the show.
Depending on when you get to town find the meeting place for that day.

I'll be at the Comfort Inn. Hope to see you all there!  Looks like I'm bringing the Mustang but if the Gremlin's body gets done before July, I'll jam on it to get it in one piece.

Very nice rig! Love the Ambo too!

But, if possible, I’d highly recommend a Thursday arrival! The Thursday evening cruise-in is a great way to start the fun and the extra day gives you time to get settled. Our 1st trip, we arrived Thursday afternoon. We now roll in on Tuesday. ;)

Unfortunately the spirit is without a heart at this moment. And my garage has disassembled engine parts covering every horizontal surface. Dismantled a stock 304 to replace the 360 that was in there and to make it factory correct! So unless I come into a bunch of money quick, looks like I'll be driving a brand X car up to Kenosha... Highly considering renting a truck to haul back some parts for it though! Doug and I, along with our women-folk have rented an AirBnB on the lake if you would like to join us for cheap beer and companionship!

So... Hate to ask this but... Considering everything that has happened with the Coronavirus... Is anyone else expecting to see the Homecoming Show get cancelled? Although there hasn't been any official word from the Kenosha History Center yet... There's been a handful of guys I know in Kenosha who put on other smaller car shows and over the past few days... The City has reached out to each of them and said that all car shows will be postponed until further notice. So I hate to rain on the parade but I came here wondering if anyone else has heard anything. Thanks.

I predict that this China stuff will be a memory by the end of July. Lets all pray that's true. Please, lets have some positive thinking here. I feel that the Colorado AMO show was canceled a bit prematurely. I feel 3/4 weeks notice would have been sufficient to cancel. Our county needs all the support we as Americans can muster and lets stop these doomsday predictions so life can get back to normal.

We are attending the Oshkosh Air Show the same week as Kenosha and no word on cancelling that yet. That is a big event.

See ya all at Kennedy Park.

Having AMC Fun,
Ollie

It depends upon the prep time required to stage the event. The Olympics is a good example: It will probably be safe in late July, but the athletes need time to train, so they postponed.

How much advance time do they need in Kenosha to get the show ready? I think that will determine whether or not the show happens.

So far, the Kenosha website says nothing about cancelled or postponed. Fingers crossed.

I have 100% confidence that Kenosha 2020 will happen as it does every 3 years. The only issue will be how many will no longer be able to go because of financial strains caused by the layoffs and shutdowns. Will it be as big a show as 2017? Probably not, but there will be a show and those of us that can will make the pilgrimage that all we look forward to.

Many of the towns have just started to cancel events in the month of July. One event that they cancel is fourth of July parades.Lock down for one month, then another month. They will have a problem when the weather warms up to the first 68 degree day and people want to go outside.

It looks like AMO and the Kenosha History Center have removed everything about the Homecoming from their websites. I haven't seen anything about a cancelation anywhere, but I'm sure it's in limbo right now. It would be a shame to cancel it prematurely.

It should probably be canceled.. realistically speaking (and not to sound rude), a majority of AMC owners are older and more susceptible to COVID-19.

It's a risk and for that reason the show can wait a year until things calm down, in my opinion.

That being said, if they don't cancel it and things are good by then, I'll see you all there!

Just search for Kenosha Homecoming.

Thanks! Yeah, I should have been more specific. I was surprised that there isn't an event-specific site, just that 'chamber of commerce' side.

But as subsequent posters mentioned, maybe the event is actually cancelled, and the chamber of commerce page is being optimistic.

I've just heard back from someone at the Kenosha History Center. They have not made a decision about cancelling the show yet but the idea has been tabled and its being discussed. The person I spoke with said ultimately the KHC is probably not the entity that will be responsible for making the decision... it will come down to the Mayor making the call. After working the Mayor in the past and knowing how pragmatic he is... I can tell you personally he will most likely not allow something to happen that will put the health or lives of others in jeopardy. Unless something happens quickly and the virus can be eradicated in a short period of time I think the show will eventually get cancelled out of an abundance of caution. Although the curve in WI has been flattening... that is not the case in other states... specifically in Illinois where the peak hasn't even been reached yet. Also... many other states are only just starting to grapple with it as well. Unfortunately... there are a lot of people at the local, state or federal level that haven't taken this threat seriously enough. Many states are not adequately prepared and on the national level in general... its still not under control in the big picture. Places that held large scale events over the past month are turning into hot spots. Places like New Orleans that held Mardi Gras recently or Florida that had massive influx of Spring Breakers have shown how quickly it can spread through the population. And of course.. those people who got sick ended up spreading it before they even knew they were sick. Again.... seeing that all the smaller car shows in Kenosha have already been put on hold... I think the Homecoming show will succumb to the pandemic as well.

I'm so on the fence about this.

If it's cancelled, that gives me another whole year to prepare my car as it definitely won't be out of the body shop by July.  It still hasn't gone in yet because of all this nonsense.

But on the other hand, everything else has been cancelled this year.  Portland Swap, betcha the Monroe swap will be killed.  Spokane Swap might not happen.  This whole year is falling apart and it just sucks.

It's like that classic episode of the Twilight Zone with Burgess Meredith where the world ends, and he has all the time to read books but then breaks his glasses....

I'm unemployed this year.  I had all the time and UI coming in.

There was time now..... That's not fair!

Even if it's not cancelled all the goings on are going to affect the turnout.  With the financial hardships some are facing from not working and even if we are given the so-called "all clear" by July there are some who may not be comfortable traveling yet.  I don't think the turnout will be anything like in the past.  Might be wise to push it back a year if possible.

Personally I plan on coming unless it's cancelled, but here's another point of view to ponder. So fingers crossed it's still on there will be many people that to them it's the first non cancelled car event, I was planning on going to the Spring Jefferson car and swap meet in Jefferson WI in April  and to the Graduation car show in June. Unfortunately both were cancelled for this year so my next planed show is Kenosha. I will be there because it a great time to meet up with friends that I haven't seen in 1yr to last Kenosha 3yrs ago. So if there's less cars and less swappers so what, I go to the shows to catch up with friends.Yes, I do enjoy looking at others cars and looking for that much needed part in the swap but it's the AMC/Ramble/Hudson community that brings me to these events put on by hard working volunteers. They need our positive support to let them know that we  appreciate there dedacation and  that we won't jump ship when the weather gets a little rough. This will be the  jumpstart to the 2020car show season that we need. Then we can look forward to the AMC RACES in September!!!
