Sir Harry Ricardo would be proud.

It would be interesting to flow them.

When I first got them I thought they may have been welded up. Once I started to klook at them I came to the conclusion they are cast that way. And Rick Jones has a set too.
Mine came from a guy that had a back door to AMC racing stuff but he didn't remember anything about them.

They have had a die grinder taken to them but the added material has been cast in.

Of all the wee bits you come up with time to time through the years, I wonder if you have a wee army of AMC elves in your garage.

Not familiar with the casting number, but it may be a late 69 or early 70 production. Unless because of NASCAR mandating no bigger than 366cui, they may have tried some lower range torque heads for road coarse tests. Donno just seems like an odd duck, especially not having any known history.

Wonder what the flow is on them. Probably would be great heads for a turbo 304 if left in current valve arrangement.

It would make sense that AMC would take a look at lots of different port arrangements and designs,
including swirl port technology.

Look at what other manufacturers did to try to improve low RPM torque in their smaller V8's,
like the swirl port 318's,
and the (horrible) siamesed intake ports on a Pontiac 301.
^even a Turbo couldn't fix that one Confused

The 301 Pontiac was a bad motor.
I owned one.
At least they burned oil prematurely.

My brother had a nice car (for the time),
1981 G-body Grand-Am,
with a 301.
He bought a 4bbl intake for it and I nearly fell over when I saw it just had 4 ports. Confused

Horrible idea,
that whole engineering team should have been sent to the mail room to finish out their careers.

The engineering team was promoted & went on to design the Pontiac Aztek.

I had a feeling it was a later years casting. Maybe it was intended for Jeep division, since AMC had dropped the V8 on their cars after 79.

I had two sets and they both came out of AMTech.  The first set went on a 304 stroker that I built but, I will look at the second set to see if they have the same part number.

I see the shapes better now with the other pictures. I would not use those heads on my lawn mower. That is a terrible choked up runner if I ever saw one.

The 3 cylinder heads that I have are embossed with 3233344-1 or -2 and have 304 valves in them.  I don't know what the part number was on the pair that I put on the stroker engine but this is what Greg said at the time.  "These heads are AMC R&D 360 heads. They had 1.787” intake valves and 1.68” exhaust valves installed, and a swirl-port design. AMC was testing them out to see how emissions and MPGs could be improved with a lean-burn swirl-port design. I had hardened valve seats installed on the exhaust side, so that the smaller 1.50 diameter valve head could be used."  I assume he is correct on the valve size but I can't remember.  As mentioned all 5 cylinder heads came out of AMTech so I assumed that they were all Research and Development heads.
