I have always thought of automatics as witchcraft and disappointment, and my solution was always to swap it for a manual, but for new car we want to keep It and not spend too much money for a variety of reasons. It is a new to me 82 Spirit with a 258 and what I believe is a 904. The fluid is at the appropriate level and looks clean. The problems that we are having is it will not shift up at wide open throttle, you have to lift and then it is a slow shift, also it does not downshift very aggressively when you give full throttle. The carburetor has been changed to a Holley, but kick down linkage is still there. It has the factory computer controlled distributor. But I do have some older mechanical units I could install of necessary.
Is this something that is relatively easy to adjust?
There is a wiring harness going In near the tail shaft, what does it monitor/control? Could the computer not talking to the carburetor be causing problems??

You need to adjust the "kick down lever". Sounds like not enough adjustment. It isnt just a kick down, it also controls shifting, and when it shifts...theres more but Im just keeping it simple. The computer has nothing at all to do with the transmission. The wiring to the transmission is for neutral safety switch and back up lights...if there is another plug in that may be for the lock up...dont remember off the top of my head. The lock up is hydraulic, meaning controlled by the valve body..

This is the TorqueFlite Trans Type KickDown Linkage Adjustment from a ? 1973 ? iirc AMC Technical Service Manual and the Holley STUD I used that worked.  That Linkage has to be adjusted right for the Trans to "act" right.  There is a real good kinda long winded old Chrysler Corporate Training Video on YouTube all about Adjusting the TorqueFlite Linkage and what it does.

Throttle position linkage didn’t seem to fix it, guess I need to find a transmission shop in Houston that actually works on transmissions and doesn’t just swap parts,
