Leaf Spring Wrap Reproduction Project Launch

I can officially announce this project with some costing & timing now. Reviewing available options out there, I do not see reasonable options for American springs. Our springs are a rather rare 2" width. Wrap kits from AMK (Ford) and MOPAR vendors are for 2.5" wide springs.

This project will duplicate the (2!!) different spring wrap sizes on an American & SC/R rear leaf spring, only done in a very close to bare steel look in 304 SS. These will also be pre-bent unlike other options for all 4 corners to exacting dimensions. To add further authenticity, I am planning on stamping the original spring "OSP" manufacturer's ID on each wrap as shown in the photo below. (original parts shown in photo)

Ref. P/N 3207496

I am currently working on a good option for rubber cushions, which might modify the following product offering. This will be a very limited first run production. I will be making just 18 kit sets available after reserving my own. Kits are anticipated to be available by mid-May. I will allow set reservations below without payment necessary until I physically have the kits ready.

If the kits include only the (4) SS wraps - $40
If I can make the rubber cushion addition - probably around $50. Shipping for up to (2) sets will be USPS Priority: $7.15

This will be a very competitive price point vs. Big 3 stuff that isn't right for our actual application, especially considering the extremely low volume level. You can post your interest level.  This is being offered concurrently on the SC/R Facebook Page.

AGAIN - Please note, you can post interest here.  The 18 sets will be spoken for in total order between here and the SC/R Facebook page.  I'll start taking money in May when I have the kits assembled.

All pre-order reservations are now taken.  Everyone that reserved will get a kit as shown below for $50ea. + shipping.   for those that reserved - you should have received a note from me by now.

thanks to all those that have supported the project.  Watch the 69 SC JOURNEY for photos of install on my springs in about 2 weeks.

I will be holding a few extra overrun sets for sale at Gettysburg only.  Look for my table in the flea market.

Kevin,
I received the wraps a while back and forgot to give you a big shout out. What a great item indeed! When I re-did my springs a few years ago, we tried to reuse my originals to no avail. We ended up modifying repro Mustang wraps but they do not look correct by any means. Cant wait to replace them with these.

thanks again for a badly needed part for the SC/R's.

Mark

Mark, thank you for the shout out and also thanks for sharing your previous experience on other options out there. Doing that same research myself I came to that conclusion and decided to make them a project. Tonight I will post up the instructions and also a special announcement for those that ordered one of the kits.

Kevin

Attached here is a PDF file describing the process of installing the Spring wraps without harming surface finishes.

uploads/6381/How_To_Assemble_Spring_Wraps.pdf" rel="nofollow - uploads/6381/How_To_Assemble_Spring_Wraps.pdf

In addition, you have probably seen by now the finished springs on 69 SC JOURNEY and the short review on getting correct geometry wear pads 3D printed.  The cost to do those, while not bad per piece, gets expensive when multiplied by (12) especially when $1 - $2 functional replacements are available.  I decided that unless we had plenty of volume to consider an aluminum mold tool to make it, then it just wasn't economically reasonable to consider them a project.

However, I am willing to offer for free (only to any of the few persons that participated in this project), and digital copy of the 3D CAD file necessary to go out and source them yourself.  I will also provide help on how to get the best pricing, but I will warn that it still won't be for the faint of heart,  Just PM me for more details if you want to source them.

Feel free to ask any questions on the above process that is not clear enough.
