This is my wagon1969 American wagon just doing some clean up on it. The story is it's a 83 concord motor 258 and T5 5speed disc brakes. Custom interior done by a aircraft interior guy. Owned since 2008 it's a California car no rust.

Nice sanitary installation - and good to see a VAM intake being put to good use!

I have always been fond of the two-tone. I like the roof in white, seems to help give the car a lower/longer stance.
Thumbs Up

Just painted that about a year ago when I got the car it was all yellow. I welded all the holes up where the roof rack was and painted it.

Car looks great!  I wish my 4dr was a wagon.  Maybe if I find a wagon in very sad shape I can graft the wagon tail to my sedan...

I think you have more hp than I do so your 500 would work on yours I don’t know if I can tune it back that much.
Do you remember what rods and jets you had in your carb? I am gonna try a 500 and see if I can get it to do any better.

In the Edelbrock book I am 2 stages lean, left bottom quadrant. Believe I use the strongest springs.

Nothing fancy about my 232, think I am bored .030 and using a 256 Isky cam.

I forget what jets I used in my Carter 500 (I want to say that I whad to go richer then Ollie) but i did end up using the stiffest step up springs. I put the smallest Lunati cam in it (208/213 @ .050), a Clifford DP, Eagle exhaust manifold and a 2.5" exhaust.

LOL, Ollie's post was a bit funny to me.  My experience with Holly and Autolite carbs has been fairly good in the past.

Now Edelbrock carbs always ran filthy rich for me.

Really nice looking wagon though. Thumbs Up

Man, it's been so long since I've been able to work on classics...  Fun time trying to force all that buried knowledge back to the surface, LOL.

From what I recall, the two common causes there are either the idle screws or the power valve.

Start by trying to back the idle jet screws out 1/4 turn.  If that doesn't work, check the power valve linkage.  It should rest just lightly touching the power valve without pushing it in.  Use a .015 feeler gauge between the valve and the linkage, and it should move the valve without bottoming it out (so to speak).

Hope that helps.  It's going from VERY old memory and more with the autolites that were nearly identical to 2bb Holly carbs.

The power valve is adjusted correctly. The idle screws don’t help the issue.

Had to take a break and brainstorm this for a while...  I still pretty much got nothing.

The obvious stuff I'm sure you've checked; fuel pressure and vacuum.  Likewise, it sounds like you know your stuff so I'd say the probability of a small piece of poo in the idle circuit somewhere is unlikely.  About the only other thing I can think of is see if a slightly stronger accelerator pump is available for your carb model.

I have correct fuel pressure and vac is good. Hot spark. Took carb apart a few times for possible trash. So far none of that.

Are you running a fuel pressure regulator? I think its critical to good carb performance. What I like about my regulator is that it holds pressure in the system. After sitting a week or two, one pump to set the choke and cranks right up.

Edelbrocks come set up fairly rich, especially auto chokes. Mostly geared to V-8's and generally rich is better. But so easy to change....

5spd...  Dunno what to tell you bro.  By all accounts that though should be performing flawlessly.  Again, accelerator pump MIGHT be something to look at.

Ollie, MY problem was back when I was working on carbs, it was in Georgia trying to get the cars to comply with emissions (smog) laws.  Kids would get cars that still required testing (75 or newer), slap an Edelbrock on there, do some other "bad" stuff and then bring it into the shop after they failed an EMI test heinously.

Edelbrock is a great street performance carb.  Not so great for passing smog though, esp when the car owner has tried to be sly and disable all the other smog control equipment and gut the converter.

Back in the day, I was damned good at tuning a carb via the 4 gas analyzer on a Sun 2 Interrogator though.  Done right, you could get good performance and still pass an EMI inspection.

Mine has reclining seats but there are no braces on them other than what’s on all seats.

So that means I can recline the seats without any external braces and it won't affect the mechanism in the seats I'm asking because I don't have the seats put back in the car yet and I don't want to break the reclining mechanism if I do happen to recline a seat down

I have been working on this thing a good bit last few weeks. I think I have the AC dialed in finally. The unit I have don’t have much info and their tech sucks. But I think I got it now.

I had a bit of trouble dialing in my AC too. Mine kept freezing up with the low side @ 45 lbs.

I let out freon until I got bubblies in the sight gauge and them just barely cleared them up. Spits ice cubes now and doesn't freeze up.

Decided to be different and build a fire breathing stroker with custom forged piston and a set of new rods from molnar I had to cut the caps and crank down. I was gonna leave it stock but have decided to build a nasty in line 6. It will have a 800cfm carb on it. Fully ported and polished top end. 6in rods milled down weisco pistons. Will post details as I build this.
