Maybe I am getting a bit old and my vision isn't what is once was but I can't see any difference in the early and late Machine intake. Can anyone tell what the differences are? We have the Machine prototype intake that was removed from the AMC factory by an AMC employee when the factory was shut down and I would like to know if it is the same as the early intake in the picture that my aging eyes can't see the difference from the later version.

The area right behind the carb is visibly different between the early and late intakes.
Early is lower with 3 cylindical bolt boss protrusions.
Late is raised, has a kinda rectangular recess, and bosses are flush.

Last Summer (July '08) my wife and I attended the 39th Street Rod Nationals in Louisville, KY.
While there, we strolled through the swap meet and saw this intake.
I know nothing more about it, but am presenting it here to the group.

The only info that I have is where a guy posted one up for sale on ebay in 2008. He claimed that it was a TRACO Trans Am intake manifold and was used in Trans Am racing during all of 1970 and some of '71. The guy claimed that there were only 5 or 6 made which, I find very hard to believe. I first saw the one I bought on a '70 AMX in Detroit. The guy eventually pulled it off and had it for sale at our local show so, I bought it. The general shape of the runners are really similar to the Rebel Machine intake. The top is actually 5/8" taller than the Machine intake. The part number is RD 68899. I often wondered if that was AMC's Research and Development part number or, TRACO's.

Um.. my Daughter can sell it when I am dead and gone so, you might want to talk to her.. Actually, I was thinking about putting it on my '68 AMX with the 343 (B&S to 370) DN 5 speed. Yep, it is aluminum. I am trying to find out who casted the aluminum parts for TRACO just for the heck of it. It would be cool to do a real comparison between the TRACO intake, the Machine intake and the R4B to see what the real numbers are.

Very Nice wall!!! Including the luggage racks. The 71 cast iron is taller than the Machine one, almost like the same height comparison in the pics with a traco one. It was said not to discuss them here, just post pics, but I did not know where to add that info. Sorry Bill. SH
