I heard Larry was very ill.  Is this true?  If so and anyone knows him pass on my prayers to him.  Like him or not, he is the guy who started the AMC hobby and united us all in the first place.

I wish him well and hope he recovers if he is ill.

I don't think so. He had some health issues awhile back but those are over. I visited him last Sept. and he and I exchange e mails regularly.

Got to know Larry somewhat when I joined the CACI when I bought my AMX back in the early 80's. Bought some parts and stuff from him and got his news letters along the way. But by the late 80's I moved and the AMX ended up being parked for awhile and I lost contact with him. Glad to hear he is doing ok but I have read some stories from other collectors and AMC guys who don't think too highly of him. I can't say yes or no but he certainly left his mark on the AMX collector scene.

Wish him and all of his family, friends well.

Those that have been around any type of hobby, job, etc could and can change, personally and not because I haven't in the past ...do my best not to pass judgement.... guess it's called getting old.

Heck redundancy in and by itself has to affect the best / worst of any human being.

Was there ever any confirmation in person, by phone, through email that Larry Mitchell is fine?

When you speak to him, ask if he has a copy of the original CACI restoration /juding guideline book.  I lost the copy that i got from him back in 1979. Could use it for my current 70 AMX resto project.

Larry has done more for the AMC hobby than any other individual for much longer than anyone else.  Yes, he could be a little slippery in business dealings but it was always buyer beware..........I was CACI # 396 joined in DEC 1975 and I loved his newsletters.  My mother usually read them before I even got home.  We used to discuss over beers on the apron in front of the house.  RIP Franny...........

Mike,
I have the 1979-1980 CACI Rooster but not the judging guide lines book. First I've heard of it in fact. I don't think Larry Mitchell has much of that stuff any more. He sold most of it , and two big moves probably pretty much finished off the rest of it. I think he might  have a Gymkhana suspension kit or two left and some other parts, but the vast majority of it is gone now. Larry sold most of his cars and collection to Terry Gale. What he did not sell on EBAY. LRDaum

Please pass along a hello from me as well and glad to hear he is ok! I used to speak regularly to him back as a 20 year old college kid with a car he knew nothing about. He always was good with his time and knowledge and I spoke periodically with him for years. I lost touch when he moved a few years back, unfortunately.

Tell him Chris from Canada says hi!
