Wish I had one as nice as you are starting with. Great job with the motor. Oh well finish up my hornet and back to the hunt to find a nice javelin.

Looks like you had a little rust in the left qt behind the wheel. How did you fix it and did you have to do any other  rust work?

Are you going to paint it the stock yellow or leave it in primer? You don’t see many yellow ones and why if I ever get the time & money going to paint my drag car, a 70 Javelin also, back the stock yellow.

Keep the pictures coming.

It's going to be a cool Javelin. Keeps the photos coming. I have a 70 bittersweet Javelin with the flat hood but the blister hood really makes the car look tough.

thanks for all the comments thus far...

car was originally pale yellow..going to paint it flat black. going for more aggressive look, changed stance of car slightly (lift in springs),
car has tinted glass which works well w dark color.

dave, car did have slight rust in lower quarters, patched with small metal splice and some body filler. wanted to leave as much original metal as possible. body is in super shape for its age..floorpans, trunk floor, fender troughs all good.

ken,
thank you..it won't be near as nice as your car but plan for this one is daily driver for work so not going for perfection.

Had a couple of issues with installing tranny... had to modify a transmission mount and headers needed tweaking on the passenger side..

I run Hooker super comps 1-7/8 and they dont have that pipe.
Thanks

dave,

headers are dougs d103, 1 3/4" ---I have a set of dougs d104 on my 69 amx which are 1 7/8 tubes. the 104s hang lower, but I think they fit better. with the 103s I had to cut part of pass motor mount off and pass collector actually rubbed side of tranny pan when installed. granted it is fixed now, but I would think dougs would make these to clear without me having to seriously twist pipes thru the collector.

I wanted to try smaller tubes cause this engine is not very radical...10:1 compression, lunati voodoo cam 527/547 lift, 268/276 duration, 291 heads, petronix elec ignition, performer intake...

tranny I am very excited to try out. I had shop change first & second gear (lowered 1st by 12%, 2nd by 5%), has manual valve body and custom 3000 stall converter.

car is very close to first start...hopefully by next week it will be running

Don, thank you for the info on the headers. If the shorties I have dont fit, Eldy sell out when they stop making them, I am going to need something to replace the holey ones on the car now.

Looks great!!!!  Not being critical but....I would look at your strut rod bushings.  It looks to be back a little.  Mine did that and I didn't notice it until I stood way back and looked at it.

70 Ram Air 390 Javelin with that hood and rear spoiler look better than the same year AMX to me...it combines the best of both cars the way I see it. If I didnt have the 68...I'd be putting a 70 ram air 390 jav on the bucket list.

Looking good
Other than the dash being SST wood grain it looks to be a bare bones car with no power brakes or steering. Did your car come with disc or drum brakes? Thinking drum if not power.

When I see other peoples 70 Javelin done and on the road I want to get mine done but between school, selling the house and looking for a job does not leave a lot of car time

Why cant you have both??
I have 2 70 Javelins, a drag car and a street car that started as a 390/4sp with ram air hood.

Looking good Don!!

Do you get much valve train noise? I tried running those roller tip rockers on my wife's Javelin when I built it, but they made a lot of noise so I changed back to the stock rockers.

Did you ever receive those front turn signal housings?

Thanks
Dennis
