The timing cover on my Eagle has a socket for a magnetic timing probe. I haven't found much on the net regarding this and was curious if anyone had any info about it. Is it more accurate than a light? Where do you find a tool to check it that way? I was also wondering if someone could use it with the right probe/sensor to give a signal to an aftermarket ECU like Megasquirt?

It's not something you buy at Sears or is more or less accurate - it's part of higher-end diagnostics tools - Sun scopes, etc..
It's not more accurate than a light, just means that your Sun scope displays the timing digitally on a screen or print-out rather than you looking at it.

Wasn't timing hole used by the factory to set initial timing on the engines before they went to the assembly line?   Joe

Ive wondered about them too....how does the magnetic effect take place on just a cast damper?   Does it sense the slot (timing groove) in the damper because im sure there isnt a magnet anywhere.  I agree, go buy a dialback timing light and hope you can still find one made in New Mexico (the US).
