Since the car is going to get out pretty soon, wanted to
know what you think about it...
It concern a "stock"287 ,600cfm Holley and double 2in exhaust,
Set the initial timing at 18 deg initial advance,
Is it too much?Run fine but didn't tryed on the road(snow)
Does anyone have recomendations,
I'm still on trial and errors with these engines and don't want to
mess it!!Wacko

I think 18 is a little too much I would start at 10 BTDC or at the stock setting and work up from there. The thing with knock is you can’t hear it but it can be there. When you do hear it was there before then doing damage so be careful. What is the total timing and at what RPM is it all in by?

The other thing to keep an eye on is how lean the carb is at speed as this can cause knock too.

Carb is runing a little rich for now so i should have a safe margin....
I started at about 10 but ran better like that!!
Ok i know, there no load on itLOL
Don't know total advance but dist is totally stock(down to the point)
so i guess not that much.....
Probably too much initial like you say think i'll start things up at around 12 and be safe for now.....
Tanks

If the dist. is stock then you can look up the dist. spec in the TSM to see what total is and when it is all in by.

The TSM says max initial advance is 10 degrees.  The marks on your vibration dampener start at O degrees and the next mark is 5 and then 10 degrees BTDC as you go clockwise standing in front of the engine.  Those are the only marks on the dampener.  The 600 cfm carb may be a little rich for a stock 287 with stock cam.  Good Luck.
