I'm new to the AMC scene as I just picked up a 1968 AMX that I am starting to collect parts for. Looking on Legendary Interiors website I noticed that they don't have an option listed to choose 'Black' as a colour for the 1969 door panels but instead 'Charcoal', yet the 1970 panels can be bought as 'Black'. My question is, can you request them in black, and if not how much of a difference is there between black and charcoal? Or can 70' panels be used in a 68'? Thanks.

IIRC - Legendary does not offer 68 door panels. 69 or 70 will fit, but are not correct. 69 panels were charcoal not black.

If you decide you need driver quality used 68 panels, I have them for $100.00 each + shipping.

The 69 charcoal looks black, but if you put a charcoal door panel in a black interior, you will see the difference.
The 68 panel has the arrow (or javelin tip?) shaped woodgrain insert.
The 69 panel has the rectangular shaped woodgrain insert.
The interior was changed for 70, so the door panel will be less similar than the 69 panels.

As the previous post indicates, if you were to buy the Legendary door panels for '69, in Charcoal, you might want to die them a true black, if the rest of your interior is going to be black (as was correct in '68).

Thanks for the replies and the helpful explanation. And 69BBB3904spAMX I will definitely consider those panels, any idea what they'd cost to ship to Ontario, Canada? Is there anywhere that reproduces the 68 panels?

Last I heard, 68 panels had not been reproduced.

They only show '68 base Javelin panels without the woodgrain overlay.

Yes you can order 69 door panels in "BLACK" from legendary. I did it 10 years ago and they charged me $20.00 extra for the color change. I don't know what the extra charge would be nowadays, but just give them a call. They were very helpful/receptive to doing those 69 panels in black. While I am well aware that the correct interior color for 69 is Charcoal, I was using black 73/74 seats. So I changed all the interior color over to Black and used a 68 dash pad which is black of course but with no grab handle. Most people don't realize the grab handle was a 69 only item so nobody really figures it out...
