Cool, I need a 2 barrel carby for my 232 that suits rebuild. Mine leaks fuel out of the throttle shaft after sitting a little while when hot, I've pulled it down upteen times, and I think I might try another one and see how that goes. Thinking mine might have a crack in it or something. If anybody has one they could spare..........

For sale 1970 Rambler Hornet SST

Rebuilt 232 6cyl and Auto. Floor Shift Auto, has Mark IV air cond that requires attention but can get it re-gased for buyer. One previous owner (little old lady)

The car belongs to my brother whom purchased it from the lady in 2001/02. Has been on many Sydney clubruns and national rallies with the Hornet. Has been sitting outside for the past 3 years unfortunatly and rust bubbles are now appearing in the the doors and front gaurds. Has never been restored and still has the original Mocca Brown paint and black interior. The interior needs work as it has seen much sun. the engine bay has been resprayed in the original colour when motor and box was out,, Has NOS wheel covers fitted. Little really is needed to get it registered again but for the fussy buyer would want to spend much money on it. Never had accident and comes with original owners manual.  Has been featured in the Australian Classic Car Magazine about 5 years ago. No registration but will come with the original number plates as shown in picture.

$2700 will own it...

PS I have driven this car on many clubruns myself and wished i could keep it for myself as it is very hard to find these in original condition. Lookng at the market in Australia with these Hornet's, this is cheap. If interested let me know and i can contact my brother or give you his details.

Car is in Lithgow NSW and can arrange delivery to Sydney and Brisbane at good rates.

Here is an older picture from about 4 years ago. I will take more photos this weekend when i get up to Lithgow.

For sale is a factory built RHD 1970 AMC Ambassador SST Hardtop. It was built to order in the USA by an Australian Air Service Commander who'd had spent time there in Washington DC. This fellow drove the Ambassador for about 2 years RHD in the US before coming back home to OZ with it. The car was hardly used when my late Grandfathers best freind Noel Keiselbach purchased it from the commander.
Noel, who previously owned a 68 Rebel and a few Hudson's, has been involved with the Hudson AMC car club in since it's early beginnings in 1969. The Ambassador has been in the club basically all it's life and has attended more clubruns, shows, rallies more then any other car in the club. I'm only 34 and I remember this car since I was only four years old as it was usually seen spotted in my grandparents driveway when we were visiting them.
My stepfather purchased the car about 10 years ago from Noel and due to health has put it up for sale. The Ambassador still wears it's original plates since it landed in Australia. There are 3 original AAA stickers on it, 3 SOHT (Sydney Opera House Trust) stickers dating back 1976, an FBN  (FAIRBURN ACT) military sticker on the front bumper and a US Military sticker from Washington DC on the rear bumper, see picture.

Today the car is unrestored except a light coat of paint, new carpet and roof lining.  Never had rust or never pranged and very straight.  Has the stock 360 4bbl (290 hp), auto, factory tinted glass. air cond, Power steer, power drums all round (stops very well), NOS wheelcovers and NOS Griil in the boot (trunk).  Has just over 100,000 miles. Will provide roadworthy certificate if requested. Has been in dry storage for the past 5 years. Unfortunatly it has to go due to Keith's health.  Send me a personal message if  interested. Whats it worth... Only two other have came up for sale in Australia in the last 2 years.... One sold for 15k and the other 21k. We are thinking around AUS$18,000ono

Steve

That Ambassador is temping too! Luckily I'm getting a new job soon so I will be able to start saving.

Steve, don't fret about the wheel covers mate, there isn't going to be a show around Lismore anytime soon so you can take your time sending them.

If anyone knows about an AMX or Javelin for sale give me a bell too.

Hi mate, How about a very low milage 1972 Javelin with 401 and auto. Its an Aussie made car with about 66,000 miles original in superb/show condition. Original white paint and an awesome car. I think low 20's will own it.

My mate here in Sydney recently sold an 68 Javelin for $25,000 with ease. I know of non others at the moment thats on the market except possibly an Aussie AMX that is low milage... no idea on price at this stage.

I'm more looking towards 68/69/70 models, but I still like the sound of that Javelin. I'f i had the money right now I'd buy all of them LOL

I take it that the Aussie AMX is a 1969 model? As far as I know we only got 1969 models locally assembled

G'day mate, welcome to the AMC forum.... the best forum in town

65 Classic hubcaps are hard to come by but may have one or two. 66 wheel covers are plentiful as i have a couple of dozen of them. The 65 i will have a look for you in the coming weeks once i can get to the property in lithgow.... have been too busy with work in Sydney to get up there. I will ask Allan Smith or Garry Murphy if they have any genuine wheel covers for in the next day or two.

OK I've got yet another request for a part that I might need. After reading a few topics on the 195.6 engine, I have decided that grinding the cam to have 0.470" lift (up 0.100" from stock) and 20° more duration (244° to 264°), courtesy of farna's information.

Any different opinions on this?

So does anyone have or know of a 195.6 cam floating around? I only want another one so i can grind it while still driving my 64' American, as it is my daily driver.

Also does anyone have the special 'short water pump' for the said engine? You can probably see where I am going with this haha

The funny thing this afternoon, my sister Lesley spotted around the corner from home here in Guildford a gentleman driving a 65/66 Classic sedan in Torquise/Aqua colour. I wonder if its the same car and someone down here just purchased it unless this is another Classic that we dont know about. She said an older grey haired man was driving it and she did not reconise him as a club member. WHO KNOWS. This car appears to be pretty straight and worth a look. $5000 would be a good buy if it needs very little for rego.

does anyone know of any 401 engines for sale in AU? did they ever make it here in any jeeps or anything?

would like one to build up to replace the 360 in the javelin

Posted By: huddy55

firstly mate you can get a 360 to high horse power without any major hassles. Thousands of 360's made it to Australia.

When it comes to 390's and 401's.... good luck. Only 70 390 powered Javelins were assembled here and 48 401 powered Javelins were essembled here in 1972. No other AMI assembled AMC model were assembled here with these engines. Ive owned a 72 Javelin with the 401 but never owned a 390. I DO know of such engines to this day in other peoples collections, all i can do is ask if your are serious on purchasing such engine.... it will not be cheap.... expect anywhere from 3 - 5 grand for a 390 401 engine in Australia. Just let me know and i make the call.

The set is in the states, but with postage being an extra 70 odd US on top of that I decided to ask here to see if anyone has a set for a 196 cheaper than this one.

Good evening all. Name is Steve, located in Ballarat and recently took on a 64 classic 660 as something of a different project rather than the mainstream fords/holdens. Love the look of the old girl. Quite a bit to sort out on her but in particular at the moment i am chasing a thermostat housing and a gasket set for the holley 2209 ( somewhere along the line it supposedly had a heart transplant from a 65 classic) The old girl has a 287 that i have managed to get started amazingly considering the butchering to all the wiring that seems to have taken place and the fact that i was lead to believe taht it had not been started in about 14 years. Any help would be greatly appreciated in locating these parts. Will soon do a list of the spares that came with the car ( bootload of gear came with the car, a lot of stuff of the old girl but extras such as hubcaps and other bits and pieces).

Thanks for any help that you guys can give.

Steve.

Hi there Steve! Let me be the first to welcome you to the AMC Forum! '64 was a good year for Ramblers as I own a '64 American. Post some pictures up if you can so we all can have a look at your new (old) girl!

There are a few contacts that I have found useful.
Mascot Motors for spare parts Nowra NSW Jim 02 44218111
Rambler Parts of Australia SA 08 82621848

PS. I noticed you said the boot load of spares contained Hubcaps. I'm on the lookout for a set and if you have a spare set that you are willing to sell send a PM my way.

Anyway hope you have a good time with the Classic!

Cheers
Rick

I will check my sources for the hub caps. BTW I am looking for a set of NOS gages for a 66 American. Check the pictures. Part # on Temp gage is KS 62565 G , the Fuel gage is # KS 62563 G. I believe the RHD stuff is the same.  Thanks for all the Pictures  from down under. Keep them comming. I haven't seen a Picture of a 66-69 American Wagon. Is there any down there?

Now this is something I didn't expect to see on the Aussie eBay

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Rambler-American-440-Convertible_W0QQitemZ150405860575QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAU_Cars?hash=item2304e34cdf

It looks ok, but the grill is a bit bent. My dad is actually thinking about buying it. Does anyone here know the owner?

Hi there,

I too am from SA nd located in Birkenhead, near Port Adelaide.

I have recently acquired a 67' American 440, with a 232 motor and auto trans, and need to locate some parts for it.

Any ideas for parts such as water pump, thermostat housing, shockers, boot lock (complete), air cleaner, 1 single hubcap , and there will be more to come no doubt!

Is it better to source from US or try and source here in Australia?

Any speed shops sites in the US you know of that may have these parts available?

Thanks
Tanya

I might have a hub cap you are after. Post a picture of it and I might be able to help you. I'm after a set of 4 myself.

As for the water pump, try Mascot Motors on 02 44218111
or Rambler Parts of Aus on

Water Pump and Thermostat housing - Mascott Motors, they supplied mine.

Aircleaner - any reputable parts supplier should be able to get you a Ryco A55 or equivalent.

Send me a PM with your email address and I will send you my list of part numbers for stuff I've used so far, like the air cleaner.

Cheers

Shane,

I put a second hand HQ V8 radiator into my 67 American. All up, including modification, it cost me $300.  My 67 has a 232 so the 258 radiator must be at least of similar size, so this may be an option for you. Good luck.

Would a 4.0 Jeep radiator fit? It might be a bit more costly than an HQ radiator though

Hope these come thru OK. The one on the left is the 64 with my 70 Jav on wedding duty. The right one is at an Adelaide All American Day in 2009.
The convertible is one of eight brought into Australia in 1964, all were factory RHD's built in Brampton Canada. All had the 195.6 OHV engine, 3 speed auto column shift, non-power drum brakes and manual steering. The tops were power driven up and down using a hydraulic pump behind the back seat. Pretty much the same as the 4 door sedans mechanical wise.

I reckon I've ditched some loose 196 cams in my last clean up,  but there's one in a short motor I can pull out easily if you still want one.

The OEM number is 3203580. Go to your local CBC or Bearing Services counter and try for a CR18444 or a TC12136. I've had these numbers written down from a long time ago, hopefully they're still available.
Let us know if they're right (woo hoo) or wrong (d'oh) so others will know for the future.

Well I went out and ordered the seal based on the part numbers supplied. The TC12136 didn't come up but the CR18444 did. The bearing suppliers said it crossed over to an N470331 and it was the seal for a Rambler diff. "Bingo" I thought, I'm back on the road. WRONG !!!! totally different seal, now I'm back where I started. Any ideas???
Here's the pic of the seal in my diff, and the new seal supplied. Unless the new seal seals further down on the pinion than the original one did. Does anybody know? I'm reluctant to remove the old seal for fear of buggering it and being unable to replace it. Then the car will be a definate no go.

The seal actually seals on the pinion shaft, not the yolk like most other cars do.

Looking at your diff, it looks like a 1964 or 65 diff. I can't see where the unijoint coupling is. Have you already removed that ? Or did you have to undo a big nut to get the prop shaft off ?

The vehicle is a '67 American, 232, Auto(US '66). The picture shows the yolk already removed, as the pinion seal is protected behind a dust shield. There is a nut retaining the yolk, and another behind the seal for the pinion bearing.

Well we can scrap my earlier suggestion.
The 67 American seal is the same as for 1960 to 1969 according to the AMC parts book
Group 9.064-1 p/n 3203580 cross references to National seal 470331N, but that is incorrect, as proven, so my National oil seals catalogue must be wrong.

Hi Guy's.
A newbie here, found the site by chance.

I'm after an early 70's to 75 model 4dr Rebel or Matador. Preferably from Sydney or close by (NSW), as that's where my butt resides.
I'm after one that's suitable for an easy project, somewhere between "simple restoration and mild custom"

There was one advertised on Ebay about 2 weeks ago, a guy from QLD was auctioning it off. Not sure if it sold or what. Unfortunately, I did not save the ad as a favourite.

My price range is between $3k and $4k.

Cheers Drew

Hi original rebel welcome to the forum! It's always good to see another Aussie AMC'er about.

That matador you speak of is back on eBay, and he wants 4k for it, but it is in QLD unfortunately. I was going to have a look at it myself (I used to live 1 hr south of the Gold Coast), but being in the Army has made me move to Albury/Wodonga.

Anyway, my '64s wipers have stopped working! Its not the Vacuum motor, as I rebuilt that, I just need a new cable because it has over strectched itself. If anyone has one let me know! Or would it be easier to have one made?

Cheers
Rick

Putting the feelers out. I've got a couple of V-8 heads that I'm looking to possibly sell.
These are the big valve versions for 360-401 engines. I have a couple sets and configurations.
All are maged and a clean. Maybe slight surface rust here and there.

They are HEAVY so shipping from NZ could be costly, but these are all the performance versions. 58CC and one set of very, very hard to find 291C heads.

So, before I get all the specs and variations up I want to see if there's any interest.
I'd rather get these to Forum members than throw them to E-Bay or TradeMe.

I have a few leftover bits from my 343 engine build that I need to sell to recover a few dollars:

Powermaster 9415 Ultratorque mini starter, brand new $250 price drop $220, now listed on ebay so get in quick. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290565572448 - http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290565572448
Didn't fit with my hooker headers. SOLD

Harland Sharp S4004 Roller Rockers, 1.6 ratio 3/8" stud mount, couple of hours running only and the polylocks have never been used $200 Price drop now asking $160
Used 1.7 ratio in the final build

Comp Cams 926-16 springs, 740-16 Retainers, 612-16 retainers 3/8" single groove and 504-16 valve stem seals, all brand new $120
Brought the complete kit then decided to run Edelbrock heads so didn't need this stuff
Springs are good for up to around 0.500" lift.

This stuff is priced below cost in the US so this is an opportunity to save a few bucks.

I am over in Perth, but can post anywhere in Austraila at the buyers expense.
