Yes it is the Real Deal.....................not a clone ...........................or a tribute car................and is still racing today. I worked on this car for Buzz in 1972 prior to a race at Sears Point. Got to see him race the car last Summer here in Portland at Portland International Raceway. Car still sounds AWESOME. Buzz races in the Sportscar Vintage Racing Association (SVRA) and we hope to see him again this Summer at PIR. Buzz is a great guy and it was good to talk to him after 47 years.

Thanks for that.  I love to see these old race cars still out and being beat on.  Trans Am was about the best thing going in the early 70's.

Cheers,
Billy

I believe this car, and the Craig Jackson (Auction guy) Javelin were the two '69 RKE cars?
Both have 1970 front sheet metal and rear spoiler, now.
I would suspect both got the 1970 update in 1970.
Both still in action!
Great Pics!

Not only was it great to meet up with Buzz again, but the vintage race cars at theses races is VERY impressive. The owners don't collect art......................they drive it. The weekend is a collection of former Trans-Am, Indy, NASCAR, Formula 1 and others..................all racing. Top dog in Buzz's class was a 1965 427 OHC aluminum bodied Cobra.........a million $ car that the owner drives at all these races. The pits are open and you can walk by the cars and talk to the owners/driver/mechanics. Hagerty typically has a car show at the race and show entry gets you into the races, the pits and we even got to take a couple of laps around PIR in the Gremlin. Was a beast in the straights, but suffered in the turns..............especially in the chicane.

Overall..................A GREAT WEEKEND !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This car was campaigned by Kaplan in 1970 and driven mostly by Ted Roberts.  It was sponsored by Fyr-Fyter.  Supposedly was not fully built when Penske took the cars from Kaplan and was a left over.

Buzz repainted it after he bought from Ronnie.  At one point it had a Penske/Traco 5000 engine in it.

I'm pretty sure that Buzz mentioned last year that he still has the Penske/Traco 5000 engine and had considered dropping it back in the Javelin to "be more competitive". He had also been racing the old #33 Skoal Bandit car to "be more competitive".

Take a quick look at the driver's compartment and see if anything "unusual" catches your eye.

Are you talking about the foot rest since Buzz has a prosthetic lower leg!

That be it. Was always impressed with Buzz back in the 70's before titanium prosthetic legs were available.

Very similar to the Trans AM 5 liter engine which is 5000cc.  They ran mechanical fuel injection with an Enderle intake setup though.

Ah, ok. MFI. Side draught? How was the power with the IR type manifold? Pics would be fun. I’m not sure I’ve seen this engine. If I recall there was a upright, drag race style manifold from Enderle.

Someone should contact Buzz and get more information on the status/history of the engine he has in his possession. I'm hoping to see him in September when they are scheduled to return to PIR.
