Someone posted a Craigslist ad for this and I gambled on it for $40.  Its an oddball for sure.  Looks like it was split in half and welded back together.  The runners are much longer then the Clifford I compared it to.

Interesting.

To certain point reminds me of the VAM intakes.

Maybe it's custom cast. I used to cast things like that in high school metal shop.

Very interesting. Are the flanges all straightened on a level plane? They look like they have been position on an angle.

I have a Oct. 1969 Rod&Custom with pictures of the optional VAM four barrel intake.

That's it exactly,  complete with no trademark, serial #,  or any marking in any of the 3 pictures they show of it.

Looks like the VAM 4V intake, as tyrodtom mentioned.

Was this the "Jim McFarland" intake from Wisconsin?  Still worth the $40 even if not IMO.

I wish I saved the picture when I saw it, the ad was pulled in a day.

It's not the aluminum VAM Go Pack intake. The VAM intake is totally round, boomerang-like.

Here are some pictures of it, complete with a press presentation by VAM engineer Armando Lobato, one of the men behind the VAM Go Pack.

Those VAM engineers make some cool stuff for the AM I6. Really makes for some interesting engine build for a VAM GT... just wonder what other options for transmissions were VAM only on the performance I6 line. I dont think a T5 would last long on a Rally GT.

That's not the only 4 barrel intake VAM made.
I'll try to post a picture of the intake pictures of the VAM intake that was in the Oct. 69 Rod&Custom.
It's probably the first ones they installed on the 252 they made in the late 60's.
It looks exactly like the intake the original poster pictured.

The picture you have there maybe a later design.
What's the date on that article ?

I almost bought one of those intakes from Randall American in 1970,  but they didn't want to deal with mail orders and drop shipments.   I was in the Army at the time.
I ended up getting a Offenhauser intake instead.

That was 50 years ago,  but I still have the magazine that I found the information about VAM's performance versions of the AMC 6.

In the other thread I pondered if it was a VAM intake. I think it is a VAM intake.. I thought I had seen another one like it on a VAM Facebook page. I am going to email my friend Luis and ask him if he has seen it down in Mexico on any VAM cars before.

I have no way to do it.
I'll see if Rod &Custom has a archive of old articles.

Rod&Custom devoted 2 months to the AMC 6,  both September and October, 69 had AMC 6 content.

hmm... i go to mexico every year (just Puerto Vallarta, with all the other old gringo folks). my spanish is barely Restaurant Spanish. i suppose i should think about how to fetch some manifolds back to the US. would have to be clean-ish and go home as checked baggage. and get through customs.

I didn't know until today that Rod&Custom went out of print in 2014.
What a shame,  probable my favorite car magazine back in the 70's and 80's.

I've got hundreds of old car magazines,  when I say old I mean back into the 60's and even have a few from the 50's.

But when I put a page on a printer I usually get a picture so dark and fuzzy you can't make out a lot of it.

Tyrodtom,

Tha article I posted is from May 1969.

Armando Lobato was not the only VAM engineeer behind the VAM Go Pack. Pilots and engineers Javier Elenes and Germán Revilla also stand out in its conception among others, it might be that one was behind every different VAM four-barrel intake.

In this regard, there are three VAM Go Pack intake designs so far.

Do you know anyone that could scan the Rod and Custom articles for you?

If you do, he/she can send them to my email and I can post them here for everyone to see.

I would like to see a review of the VAM Go Pack from the American point of view, since the norm at the time in the US was all-V8 only in regards to performance.

This is a new one for me.

That's the 1963-1973 VAM logo on the lower left corner.

The carburetors used in the VAM Go Pack, at least that I know of, are the Carter AFB and AVS four-barrel models, rated from 650 to 800 CFMs.

Good luck finding one of those even in Mexico. I am also there every year and belong to the local AMC Club. There are several cars with 4 barrels, however they are all using a manifold locally made but aftermarket, I forget the brand name

Most of the VAM cars were sold in the Mexico City area and were tu ed for higher altitudes. Not so likely to find them in coastal areas.
