What are your opinions of adding a Power Steering Filter on the return line to the pump. I am replacing my steering gear on my Concord as some debris is messing with the pressure valve. Along with the gear I am replacing the pump and lines. I have been advised that a filter inline will be a big aid in keeping dirt and fillings from entering the gear assembly. Are there any downsides that I am unaware of? Ron

I've run one on all my older vehicles ever since I had a hose break down internally and ruin both the pump and steering gear.

I run filters from Magnefine, They are kind of expensive (about $16 + shipping), but cheap insurance considering the cost of the other parts. I also run Valvoline full synthetic fluid. Never had any problems with any of the vehicles running filters.

X2. I also use a Magnefine in-line filter for the trans.

Got a new power steering pump for my 1969 AMX. It came with an in-line filter. I notice that there seems to have been a filter in the reservoir?? Is that available anywhere and/or is it a practical consideration vs. the in-line
