X2

Head port outlet is smaller than the header and gasket?
If you are not racing, leave it alone.

Thanks for the further explanations,
the heads are on the back burner for the moment while I work on the short block (and other stuff),

I'm still deciding on a cam,
it's not going to be a racecar, but I like tight lobe center cams, and those usually do better with more efficient exhaust ports.

Of course I am not an expert here, or I wouldn't be asking questions. Smile

I ordered ma cam! LOL

Howards .904 grind
HM2283525a cut on a 108 lobe center with 4* advance (104 intake centerline)

.006  .020  .050  .200    lobe lift w/1.6:1
275* 252* 228* 148*  .3525  .564

Intake should close @61.5 ABDC giving me 7.41:1 Dynamic CR with 9:1 Static on the Edelbrock Heads
and stock cereal bowl pistons with a (not recommended) stamped steel gasket Clap

59* overlap will be 1* less than my current (crappy old) General Kinetics 288/222 on a 114.

I *really* wanted to have it cut on a 106* lobe center line/102 intake but I chickened out LOL

^this is for a stock short block 401 + the Eddy heads, most likely an R4b
& Dougs 103 headers

Thoughts? Smile

Thank you John,
a picture is worth a thousand words.
Very nice!

I hope you don't mind me posting the pic you put up earlier to compare it to (even though it's a different port).

That kind of bowl work takes skill I don't have,
but it's helpful to see even with all that work, you didn't need to expand the port itself very much at all.

When I check the port match on the intake I'll take a hard look at the exhaust again and see if I want to do a bit of cleanup, or leave it alone.

Thanks again sir Clap

Just wanted to bump this to say WOW Competition Products/Howards works FAST!

I called late in the afternoon last Tuesday,
and have the custom cam in my greedy (not so little) little hands the following Wednesday

not bad for $130 (cam only) Clap

Hi John,
 it's a Howards HM2283525a intake & exhaust cut on a 108 (104 intake CL)

FILE NAME   @0.006" @0.020" @.050" @.200" max lift   1.6000
HM2283525A   275       252         228       148      0.353    .5640

fast acting .904 lobe,
for a std bore, low cr piston 401 with the Eddy heads & D103 Headers

I want something to build power quick on the bottom end,
and feel good shifting at 5500.

Decent idle & early closing intake won't hurt either.

It's for a 71' Javelin AMX, 4 speed.

A 2.64 first T-10 is going in at the same time, but it'll be in front of a 3.15 rear with 25.5" tall tires

(^tallish first gear= about the same as the old 2.23 T-10 w/3.91's & 27" tire combo I was running)

Thanks for looking Smile

^new cam card

my current cam is a much slower acting (and old) General Kinetics 288 in a 360

288 gross 222 net .495" lift on a wide 114* lobe centerline.

Sounded good, and went OK, but the intake closed so late the Dynamic CR was around 6.5 Confused
