Since I have recently done quite a bit of work making the car a more accurate replica as well as making it more track-worthy, thought I would share some of the photos of the work.
This is the relocated front sway bar converted to a splined torsion bar and arms attached to the upper control arms The rear bar is also a splined torsion bar attached to the lower shock mounts, mounted inside the fabricated box that provides structural rigidity for both the bar and the panhard bar. It also contains the fuel cell. The final job is to weigh the car on all four corners to set up the front springs and weight bias.

Target or not, the 71 on up Javelin body is light in the rear. Not much can be done to equalize without shortening the wheel base or replacing metal with fiberglass up front. The fuel cell box should add 20 lbs... heheheehe! Since this car is following Penksi/Donohue build, everything that has been done should help with better handling. I have taken some of what has been done in the racing program and going a bit further. Unfortunately I am stalled by my lack of welding experience or funds to have welding done to finish my mod. Widening the track helps compensate, but from what I gather under 71 T/A rules, my 65" width is too much. Changing the spindle height helps with center of gravity. But as far as I know the suspension is still high by the AMC spring saddle height. Though I think I have seen, but not positive, that some coil over design was used by Penski. |

You add weight. Great car and it doesn't matter what the percentage is if it isn't raced. But if it is gonna be raced I was just curious what the target was? On dirt you want rear percentage. My 72 Jav is 52% rear and need more.
