The latest car in the shop is a very original 1968 AMX. It is a local car purchased brand new here in Medina by its current owner. Featuring a 290 V8 with automatic trans, it's Matador Red with a tan interior. Here's how it looked around 1972:

As if a local, one owner AMX isn't cool enough, I have a personal connection to this car as well. As a kid riding the school bus over 30 years ago I would often see this car parked in the owner's garage or driveway. It was a daily driver until 1982, but hadn't been driven or moved at all since the late '80s. And although it was never left outside, the Ohio climate and generations of mice have done a lot of damage. I wont call it a barn "find" because it was never lost, in fact I photographed it about 15 years ago looking very much like it does now.

After setting in one spot for so long all of the brakes were completely seized, especially the left front which required grinding off the hold down nails from the back in order to pry off the drum and shoes together. But a couple of good friends and I had it loaded in a couple of hours and ready for the ten minute ride to the shop. Here are a couple of teaser pics taken by the car's owner, with many more to follow!

I LOVE IT!

My Fathers 68 AMX was originally 290 (401 now), auto, matador red, with red interior. Same non headrest buckets and hubcaps. His were wire wheel style though. Not many 290 base left around and you got it after all these years. Well done!

James.

I love it TOO!  I also have a 290 Auto AMX, but mine's a 69.  Thanks for posting the picture from back in the 70s.  Are those red wheels lurking under the hubcaps???

Thanks and good luck,
John B

My dad bought his 1968 AMX in 1973, Red with the same wheel covers.  Black interior, 390 automatic twin grip.  Left it to my son when he passed.

I also have a '69 AMX 290/automatic, it was my first car in 1980 and I'm currently rebuilding it. These are the rarest regular production 2-seaters, only 299 produced!

Yes, the subject car does have red wheels, they had been repainted long ago but appear to have been that color originally.

So, what's the plans for the car, Scott?  Are you resurrecting it for the owner and are you adding this one to your fleet?
