Changed the rear main seal on my Scout so I can hopefully not buy oil as often as I buy gas.
So, here's the pan from a AMC 258 in a 1974 International Harvester Scout II. The sump location is different than the other pans in this thread and changing the oil took 6 quarts to hit "full" with the filter pictured. |

I have a 68 232 pan on my 95 4.0 with an aw4 auto. No clearance problems. Starter mounted fine with plenty of clearance. Just redrilled 2 or 3 holes in left side rail.

Do you have the mini starter on it?
The large starter does not clear that early pan. I have a large 70's clutch and flywheel so I had to use the large starter or buy aftermarket. Edited by Wrambler - Apr/12/2010 at 11:07am |

Someone is selling a "70-72 4.2L oil pan" on eBay. As that guy obviously doesn't know what he's talking about, is there a way to tell between the pre-'72 and later, assuming they're not interchangeable?
I have a nice '76 258 from a Jeep and need a pan for an AMC passenger car. |
