OK, just so happens my crank is laying about in view and I had a thought.

Since I will have the 390 crank flange redrilled to fit a Th400 bushing, is it a problem to just leave the bushing in and have the machining done as is, or should I take care of it while it sits sleeping. Ha!

If I have to remove it, will the grease method work on the small diameter pilot, or heat the wee bugger and pull em out by his nose hairs?

I find the best way to take them out is to tap/thread them and then by putting a bolt in and then tightening the bolt, it will just pop out, regards Pete

Thanks... Seems easy enough, and no heating needed.

I would remove it with the grease method. Keep in mind if you went from a stick to a automatic, you will need to change the balancer as well. Shelby

You can "borrow" pilot bushing removal tools from places like autozone, for free.

X2, if you have a good pilot I've found that works the best for me.  If you don't....well then it's just a mess!

Why would the balancer need to be changed?
