Was quite unusual seeing both the Red and Green cars for sale around the same and both with the 290 in them.

You might have to loose that rear wing, otherwise it looks pretty pidy.

I always thought the rear wing made it go faster lol weird story with this one the previous owner was pretty sure it was a factory rhd imported hornet with factory 290 which doesn't line up with the info on the net but can you be sure it's not an anomaly? How would I know but he did say something about the cut outs and they were because it wasn't an Aussie car

I would speculate that the cutouts in the front bumper were made to fit yellow indicator lights, to comply with local regualations.

The easiest way to identify Australian assembled cars is to check the door tag if it's still attached. The paint and trim codes will be blank because this stuff was done locally so the US factory didn't know what to stamp.

It would be fairly easy to replicate the factory RHD conversion using parts from a local Hornet.

You wouldn't need to cut out the bumper to fit amber lenses when you could just put amber lenses in the housings you have: like this

By the way, did you read all the way through the can's and can'ts of the Motor Reg information document ?
1970 Javelin 360/727
1974 Levis Gremlin X 304/904
1964 American Convertible
1974 Matador wagon (parts)
2016 Holden Cruze Equipe
2014 Holden Colorado

With what the previous owner is saying.... the cut outs in the bumper meaning not an Aussie Hornet. Well that is incorrect. No Hornets were ever made with cutouts no matter what country of origin. With the 290.... never produced after 1969. Being a RHD Hornet if correct, It should have an Australian Compliance plate on the firewall unless it was removed or a private import. All Australian built cars had this compliance plate from 1970 on onwards. Just my 2 cents worth.
1955 Hudson Hornet Custom
1963 Rambler Classic 660 wagon
1969 AMX 343 auto NO# 09 of 24
1973 Rambler Matador Wagon 360
1985 Jeep J20 pick up 360
2000 Jeep Cherokee Classic
plenty of parts cars

You're right; I didn't word it properly, that no Hornet, made here, the US or South Africa ever had indicators in the bumpers. A lot of hard work to make it comply with 'local' requirements when amber lenses will fix the problem.
Let us know the door tag and whether it has one of these on the firewall.

and one of these

Never thought about the compliance plate, my Rambler experience is 1969 era so before those things came into fashion. It's amazing the number of cars you do see where the aussie build plates have been removed during restoration and not re-installed.

I guess somebody didn't know about the availablilty of amber indicator lenses and came up with their own solution. Of course these days you can just install amber globes to solve the problem.

I think the story with the 290 engines is that a number were supposedly dealer installed in WA rather than factory installed but then I also reckon Ben Ludlow was inolved in a few conversions. Back in the day my understanding is he was more of a mechanical repair buiness and ran a big wrecking yard that specialised a bit in Ramblers.
