64 american wagon ...196 eng...3 speed trans with bw OD....has anyone ever replaced the rear seal on the trans where the driveshaft goes in?...i looked at this and it is an oddball..it has a steel lip ..is the seal available?....whats the best way to replace it...can i pop the extension housing off or do i need to pry the seal out where it is?...thanks in advance

guys..i got it handled....my old eyes just couldn't see the gap between the tail housing and the seal...i got it out and the seal i had was wrong...original seal was naational 7223-s...long discontinued....i found one that works...timken  471344

Yeah, the original was a single lip seal with a leather or fiber outer seal... at least on some. Modern replacement is a double lipped rubber seal.
