I'll be going with a 360, backed by a 200R4... and an 8.8 Ford rear-end.

Finally finished filling in all of the firewall & inner fender panel holes... along with a long "honey-do list, and got back to working on "Rose" this week. I went ahead and mocked up the engine & transmission, and dropped the body down over them to see where the cross-member is going to hit, so that I can welding in the (inside) frame braces it'll need.

Here's the engine & transmission (360 + 200R4) bolted together with an Advanced Adapter plate.

Nothing hits.. but it's awfully close, so I'll be  "adjusting" the firewall on the passenger-side for these 2 bolts.

The driver's side has a little more space, so I'll leave it alone.

And here's a shot of where the transmission cross-member hits.  I got this along with the transmission from Rick Jones (SC397)... he modified it for the 200R4, and even though it wasn't intended for an American, it sure is close. All I'll have to do is drill new holes in it to be more centered on the American's frame rails, and put some plates on the inside of the frame to support the bolts (which is why I haven't put the front floor-pans in yet).

I didn't realize the 200R is a direct bolt on to a 360? Any special wiring or linkages needed?

You got me thinkin about that combo. I have a TH 400 with a 360 out of a Jeep for my

74 Hornet Xs project.

Nice job Thumbs Up

It is not a direct bolt on like the TH400 (jeep) trany. If you look at the pictures he posted you see a blue plate between motor & trany, that is an adaptor plate.
Think he said from Advance Adaptor.

Nice setup keep us posted on the work.

Made a little more progress this past couple of weeks.

Boy, the front floor-pans ATE MY LUNCH... Dead ... about a zillion times harder to "massage" into place than the rears.

If anyone's wondering why I'm taking the time to finish off the insides (grinding welds, body-filler, sanding, etc.), it's because I figured it'd be the best place to practice my body-work techniques before tackling the rear fenders... where EVERYONE could see my handy-work ConfusedOuchConfused
