Well the time has come
I am going to build my early 72 or late 71 model 401 for my gremlin
This motor is a virgin standard bore block

The motor will use the stock crankshaft along with h beam rods
Then the wiseco dished piston will obviously attach the that
I'm shooting for a streetable 9.25 compression ratio
And with the current chamber cc that's what I achieved

I've bout a oil pump assembly from bulltear and will inspect and more than likely run the stock timing cover
The camshaft we chose was from bullet and is a hyd flat tappet
I think the specs cam in at 220/232 @.050
With lifts in the .540 /.560 range
Johnson hylift lifters and a good timing set John recommend
The heads are a set of 993 heads that John Rossolini (spelling)
Ported
I hate grinding iron and he's getting superb numbers and results so I decided to pimphis product
Screw in studs. Good valves and springs too boot

I'm hoping to make a measly 500 horsepower or at least 475
I would love 540-560 torque

This motor will be run with a fairly mild torker intake and I will retain
My msd atomic efi system

Of course I'll have a spare tf998 trans I need to pick up from a buddy
And have it built by trans-king here in Houston
I'm thinking about 2200-2400 on the converter will work with the 3.54 geared posi
And the lightweight gremlin chasis

I recently discussed oil mods on the motor build
A lot of good feedback on that post. So I'm going to keep it simple.
I'm going to make sure my cam and distributor gears get enough oil
And everything else should remain stockish

If any one has specific info they would like to share regarding
Main and rod bearing clearance speak up. As I'll be advising the machinist
I use tomorrow

I am also rebuilding a 401 out of my Javilen AMX. I had the crank ground 10/10. On the rod bearings I noticed that there was no notch to oil the opposite cylinder. Hope this will help.

Steve,
didn't you also put in for one of the Molnar 3.87" crank & rod setups?

Just wondering if you did, what you had in mind for that. Smile

I tried. The initial thought was to go that route
But the wife shot that idea down
Som I am going to run the stoke stroke crank

I have purchased all my parts already too. So I'll miss out on any future buy in

It makes me sad

sorry,
I thought maybe you had a few builds planned.

This is why you're supposed to talk to the chief financial advisor AFTER you buy something WinkSmile

I always operate under the theory that it is easier to beg for forgiveness that it is to obtain permission.

Ever have to return anything because the chief financial adviser instructed you to do so?

Counter guy " Tell me again why you're returning this crank and rods?"

pit crew " Well, uh, the chief financial advisor strongly suggested it......"

Hey Steve, the build sounds awesome. I had a question how do you keep a 500 HP Gremlin on the ground?
Cleared for takeoff!
Enjoy your ride.

Mark.
