I have a vacuum modulator on my 1959 Rambler. It has one wire coming out of it. I was told that this wire connects to the kickdown switch on the throttle linkage. The problem is that the kickdown switch has two terminals on it. How can one wire hook up to two terminals? What wire hooks up to the second terminal? HELP!!!!!

I would suggest that the other terminal is a POWER lead TO the switch. My guess is that it's a simple momentary-contact normally-open switch, and should get power only when the ignition switch is in the RUN position [as opposed to constant power, or through the ACCESSORY side of the switch].
In the 50's this stuff was fairly simple. Resist the temptation to overthink it. |

Is there a switch under the accelerator pedal? Thats where it connects on my 64. A single wire only, ground is supplied through the transmission case.

So then where does the circuit get power? Certainly not FROM the modulator.

Based on my 64.
Modulator single Blue wire terminates on the one side of the kickdown switch on the pedal linkage on the firewall. The other side of the kick down switch is a Blue switched 12 volt wire out of the fuse box. I have a wiring schematic in the TSM I can confirm with if needed. I have upgraded my system to modern fuse and distribution and using GM color coded and labeled. |

Thank you for the reply on the kickdown switch. It certainly makes sense.
