Yep, as long as your Trac lock is a Ford type the stuff I mentioned will work. The bottle is like $15.00 shipped or $10.00 on the shelf. I have a opened bottle that for the life of me won't stop stinking even though it is sealed tight. I guess a wee spillage permeates the bottle. It's been some years now... so be careful when using it.
You can pm 401MATCOUPE and ask him directly... somewhere is a link to an online 73 TSM. It is like having one as every page is indexed on the Web page. I will try and find the link. |

I thought I would share how I installed my 1 piece axle bearings on my Moser axles, using my 20 ton press and a few zip ties. I just tied the brake backing plate against the retainer/seal plate zip tying them up to the axle lug nuts. This worked awesome. Just remember not to over tighten the bearing on the axle because it will crack the race. Hope this helps someone.

Has anyone tried the Performance American Style recommendation to use 2 kewsys on the hub/axke shafts? Am road racing and spun the hub. Not convinced that a one piece axle with its different bearing set up is the answer for road racing.

If you are serious about road racing, you probably want to convert to full floating ends.
One piece axles with press on bearings are very common in other makes, so I don't think it is really an issue for the most part.

Sorry, is a full floating the same as say a Moser one piece axle conversion?

Bit hard to describe. but a full floater has the hub fully supported by the end of the housing and a separate axle shaft without any bearings on it. Usually found on commercial vehicles where a higher load carrying capacity is required.

A full float axle end would look a lot like the front hub on an older 4x4 front end. It would be hollow and have an inner and outer bearing with a hub. the axle would support no load and bolt to the hub. If you have enough HP I would have the axle ends removed and big bearing ford ends welded on. The ford bearings are larger and support more load. It also opens up a lot for rear brakes. In my opinion using two keys only weakens the hub.

OK; yea my 70’s 3/4 ton 4x4 had that setup. Not lots of horse power, but good handling.
I see lortsof kits for jeeps; anyone sell off the shelf one piece axle kits for the Gremlin Hornet AMC 20? |
