I had a '64 Classic 660 195.6 cast iron with an AIR cooled automatic which according to the chart it shouldn't have had. I still have the radiator in the garage and there were NO trans hoses connected to it. So which trans did I have??
Past AMC's
1974 Hornet X (new)
1975 Gremlin X (new)
1964 Classic 660 Cross Country
1965 American 440-H

Tim,
I love the chart! It's helpful, and thanks for putting it up there. Since you updated the M35, just double check the years used...so it reads '62-65.

Rockland:
Your '64 would indeed have the air-cooled M35, so no surprises there.
74 Hornet Hatchback X twins (since 1977)
62 American Convertible (still worth the $50 I spent in 1973!) AMCRC #513, AMO #384

One more correction...just for historical accuracy.  The '55 Nash/Hudsons with the Ultramatic had the 320 [Packard] engines...and the '56 models with the Ultramatic had the the Packard 352.

I also believe the '55-'56 Hudsons with the 308 [Hornets] and the 202 [Wasp] flathead sixes used a dual-range Hydramatic, same as the older Hudsons.  I don't think those carry-over engines are referenced in the chart, but they WERE sold as AMC products.

Yeah, I know I'm picking nits here.  But the AMC Forum ought to be even more accurate than Wikipedia, IMHO.

I believe so also and if anyone sees a mistake feel free to let me know so we get it right .  I did some up dates on the chart . as the 290 2bbl also had the M11 on some models . The more I dig into this the more it seems to need changes . Amc did a great thing for buyers by allowing them to pick what they wanted . so just about any combination can be found .

If someone is willing to buy this and can get the correct info it would be a great help . I have been using many internet sites to try and get this right but can't seem to find much on the mid 50's .

One more bit of fine-tuning to the list:

The M35 I believe would also be behind the 1964-1965 232's, not just the 196s. (When did the 199 get introduced, '66? or '65?) At the moment, the chart doesn't list a transmission for that engine/model year combination.

from what I can find the 199 was introduced in 66 and was in use until 1970 . the earliest TSM I have access to is 67. and I now found that 232 was available in 64  but can't find any real dates on when/ if the transmission changed until the 71 model year .

Thought the 199 was introduced in 1965 because I remember you could get A/C with the 196, but not the 199, because there wasnt enough room for A/C with the 199, 1966 they redesigned the american so they could have A/C with any engine
