Hey guys

Just cleaned up my transmission and decided to fix a pan leak and a rear seal leak while it was out of the car...

I got the old rear seal out and was ready to put a new one in... But eh, the new seal has a too large ID, it's 1-1/2" and the rear shaft is 1-1/4"?!?...

The seal was from one of those M-11/11B/12 combo rubber/seal/cork kits, pretty sure I got it 10 years ago or so from AmericanPerformance in Florida, not 100% sure though... Regardless since different shafts with different OD's exist then it cannot be a real 'combo kit' with only 1 rear seal in it...

Then I read some old threads here and after reading one of them I realized that I have no sure way to know what transmission I actually have... Which ofcourse makes research worse...

Anyway, this is what I know...
- The case has the 12-1 number on it...
- It has 2 bolts on the servo (so I guess it's not a M-11, could still be a M-11B though)
- The car is born with a P-code 360 and it's an export model (kmh on the speedo vs. mph) built in Nov 70, came to Denmark in early 1971 and therefore could indeed be born with an M-12.

Any ideas on what this model transmission is?

- The 1-1/2" seal I have has "15.620" written on it (I guess it must be the CR-15.620 seal, if the writing is correct)

and... What seal do you guys use on a 1-1/4" rear shaft?

Thanks

does the output shaft have 16 or 28 splines?
if 28 it uses the same seal as the t 10  8160s i think is the part number. i will double check when i am at my shop and repost if it is wrong. i reposted correct number  8160s is correct seal for 28 spline

M12 has a larger seal and that is the one you will find in the kits, the 11 and 11B have a smaller seal.

11B is pretty much a 12 with a small output shaft from what I can figure out and pretty sure the 11B is what you will find behind a 360.

Thanks both

First of all, apparently I'm an idiot... Lol, some brain-malfunction had me measuring the output OD from the trans instead of the yoke OD.

So it's not 1-1/4" (well the trans-side is) it's 1-5/8" instead.
I assume a 1-1/2" seal fits the 1-5/8" OD yoke or am I totally way out here?

Madmax,

It has 28 splines, but is this the 'large' output then?

WesternRed,

Same question I guess, is this the small or large output shaft?

28 spline is the M-11 (small output shaft)....so even though the case says M-12 it is either a M-11 or M-11B...both (m-11's) use the same seal. M-12 is much larger and has less splines..

Got the CR-15.620 seal (1-1/2") installed and it does the trick.

401MATCOUPE,

Roger that... Thanks

I'll conclude that it must be a M-11B, since it's the original transmission behind the original late '70 P-code 360 engine... and it has the 2 bolts on the servo, 12-1 casing, BUT with the small output shaft.

Thanks all
