Please explain how putting a GM engine in an AMC will increase the number of after market parts available for AMC cars?

L T? 1..... or LS1? I had an LT1 car, and have an LS2 car now. An LT1 isn't worth the trouble. An LS1 or LS2 makes a very nice modern drivetrain with an OD trans that will give you good performance and mileage. That said, I have a mild 390 AMX that is 100% streetable and almost exactly a second quicker at the track. But the GTO gets at least twice the mpg....

I didn't think we were rude, just a little friendly ribbing. I don't think there is a large knowledge base on any brand forum much less here for sticking an XYZ LS13 in their favorite car. Try asking for help putting a LS in a 'cuda and see what happens. But it is your car so do whatever makes you happy.

I owned a '96 Trans Am and a '98 Trans Am back in the day. My favorite was the '96 w/ the LT1 w/ auto trans. The LS1 had more HP but the LT1 had a lot more low-end torque, which I liked :-)
My question is: how come you don't hear anyone on other forums asking about plopping a GM drivetrain in a '69 Mopar or a Mr. Goodwrench something-or-other into a '67 Ford Mustang? If you suggest to any fans of either of those cars your intentions I'd like to see the reaction. The best thing to come out of this is a nice body to be eventually bought at a bargain price and ready for a 360/390/401 transplant, assuming nothing is cut structurally. Worst case, the OP will get his money back parting out the car. Win-win! |

As I stated, I wasn't trying to be rude.
But this is an AMC forum, and not a Chevy-in-an-AMC forum. I've never put a Chevy motor in an AMC, so I suggested he check out how the Chevy guys would suggest he do it. And I tried to suggest it politely. Not sure what part of my reply lit his fuse; it wasn't my intention. I just didn't want to see him waste his time on an AMC forum that would be of little help to him. Now I'm sorry I tried to help. Now, if he had asked how to do something with the 401...I'm pretty sure he might've received some helpful answers. But the bottom line is, that's not what he was asking.

Don't worry about it Buzzman - to post a question like that on this specific forum and think that it wouldn't push some buttons is, well, at best naive. The members here are being incredibly polite and restrained in their responses; on other forums involving other marques of cars the guy would be roasted like a marshmallow.
As I say, I'll keep an eye out for it on eBay. |

I'm sure glad you guys responded. I can't even decipher what the heck-e-durn he is saying in his original posting. It reminds me of some Ebay ads where there is just one big paragraph with no punctuation.

Typical. It's an AMC forum you say. Well the rest of the car is an AMC. He asked for help. He didn't ask for lectures about what other forums would do ( who cares?) or how polite one is being. If you have to say how polite you are being, then you aren't being that polite. If this is an AMC forum why cite how receptive a Chevy or Mopar board would be? Aren't we AMCers doing our AMC thing? It's more than ironic that people here focus on what reaction would occur in Moparland, Fordville, or Chevy country were a similar scenario posed there, all the while saying that staying AMC is about a purity thing. Well, if it is, then following the lead of how things are done in the automotive mainstream comes across as a little hypocritical when attempting to shun the idea of helping someone keep an AMC going their way.
Better not to answer at all. What the man wants to do isn't my personal cup of tea, but I believe in relaying what the options are and letting someone else decide. Chances are, in the long run, they will come back into the AMC fold, if you get what I mean. All it takes is a little patience and alot less patronizing, which is what he was railing at, justified or not. Steve
