So as soon as I get everything lined up mounts doner car ..and hafe the doner car sold out along comes a 401 . Needs rebuild and tranny but complete from pan to carb car stays amc mpg will suck parts bill to weight of car   no fuel injection . Still need mounts   what to do

I get 17-20 mpg on the highway with my 390 and .59 overdrive T5.

Your car, your choice.  This board is about your AMC V8...so if you intend to use an LT-whatever, you might want to find an LT swap board so you'll get the information you can use.  Not trying to be rude; in fact, I'm trying to be as helpful as I can.
Buzzman72...void where prohibited, your mileage may vary, objects in mirror may be closer than they appear, and alcohol may intensify any side effects.

 Continue with the LT1 and 4l60e because even with mounts/integrating wiring/etc. you are more than halfway there and you'll get on the road sooner for less cash.

Then you can examine the 401, see what it needs, round up trans options ( including looking at the 4l60e you currently have ) and use it up the road.

 Or, you can sell off the rest of the donar stuff ( keeping the 4l60e ) including the LT1 and dig into the 401.

Will it be daily driver?

Junk 401 is 1600.. if you want it 1400 with out heads and intake and you find shiper I live in nc ican get whole doner car for 1200 motor is rebuilt

Buzz thats helpful you dont know and sending me to some one who dose I cant ask for more .. now honestly wouldnt ask a chevy group there preferance on motors its obvious but if laughing and rudness is all amc guys have to offer well mabe going to cheaper parts and a better crowd product and just letting you all rust away and not having the man power to countinue product suport at major distributors is a great idea how many amc people did you chase off that could have increased demand on parts and products you digging amc grave thanks   and all the none a holes who never be that rude in person
