See the "lowering Plates Info" topic at the top of this section. That covers the front. For the rear use lowering blocks if you have an American (leaf springs). The American was just called "Rambler" in 1969, and was the only AMC to use the Rambler nameplate, so that's probably what you have. Most of us old time AMCers still call it an American though.

It has leaf springs in the back, so its an American. I will take a look at that topic you mentioned.

I may lower my SCRambler too. Following what I did on my AMX like Farna said: lowering plates in front and spacer blocks in the rear. If money was no object control freak has a complete independent front suspension for the front.

I think saving for college is a smart move.

Personally I cut a 1/4 of a coil at a time off the front coils install and drive . if close take an inch more. and so on until I get where I want to be. or get a set of springs from a 6 cylinder car for a V8 or a 4 cyl for a L6.  rear leafs are easy . add a spacer between springs and rear axles

If you go with spacers, try to find cast iron ones.
Those hollow cast aluminum spacer blocks have a nasty habit of cracking in half, and staying that way for years and years,
till one day they spit themselves out when you least want them to. Ouch
