To save your elbows in the future, lay a paper towel or shop rag on the affected part of the glass, soak it with white vinegar for several hours (warm helps too) and the water spot residue will come off much easier with a razor blade or fine steel wool.

Wish I'd seen this thread earlier. Had the exact same issue with our 70 AMX and came to the same conclusions you did. Many of the same people posted their excellent suggestions there, that posted here. This will take you to that thread page: Scroll down about 1/2 the page to find posts related to glass cleaning. There's a little more info there that you might find helpful too regarding glass polishing. Rich C.
