My fastest run is 11.26 at 115.8, 1.52-60' 7.02 1/8th mile (going by memory) That run was against my friends 474 Duster. I had him all the way to the end then he got me by a fender he runs 10.84.
Want to get into the 10's. Is this all I can get out of my setup? Any advice?
This is my setup. 63 Rambler Classic 660. 2865lbs 4 link 4.10 gears AMC 20 Moser axles 28x9 ET slicks 904 trans lasts about 3 years. (getting rebuilt again but I expect that) Dynamic 9.5" converter set up for my dyno sheet (479.4 800 Eddy carb on gas) and flashes to 4000 from idle. 401 .030 over stock steel crank and rods Ross flat tops .011 below deck, all balanced, 63 cc indy heads just a small cleanup and titanium retainers, Airgap intake, Crane cam .533/.555 248/258 @.050 750 proform I put together and runs E85. I think that's it, any advice?

11.44, I was thinking on a head shaving as I can go as far as 49 cc with the heads. I have the extra head bolts.

Dump the Air Gap and get a torker as the air gap is too small for your application. On a milder engine my dyno testing shows the air gap better below 4000, and with your converter the engine is never under load at those rpms. The torker is superior.

Your cam is a little on the small side for your application as is the carb, I'd like to see 255 or so duration on the intake and an 850. A 750 is way small for the dual plane intake, would be better on the torker.

Of course that will make you look for an 8" converter.

On the topic of converters what is your tire size and trap rpm?

Tire size is 28.5 and trap rpm is about 6000

A trap rpm of 6000 calculates out to 7% slippage. Not the best, but pretty decent. Dynamic is supposed to be pretty good. So it's not likely the power is being lost in the converter. And the 11.26 is very good for the 116 mph, so the launch is excellent. The bad news is you are missing some power.

Brace yourself, and you won't like me for this, but the 2865 lbs and 116 mph works out to 331 rwhp. Either the dyno you were on was very optimistic (and most are because that looks better to the customer), or there are some serious losses in your setup. The converter slippage is decent, so it's likely not that.

Check the simple things that can drive you nuts. Restrictive mufflers, the throttle actually goes WOT, timing, restrictive air cleaner. Do you have an electric water pump drive and electric fans? If so make sure you don't have a thermostat so you can get the car cool before the pass, no more than 140 into the burnout box.

Out of the box the Indy heads are not great, but they do have the flow and CSA to get you into the 10's. But get rid of that intake, those are only 2 sq in csa, a cork on a 6500 rpm 401, and are the wrong piece for that converter. A torker has better csa, flow, can be ported and will help the effective carb size. An open spacer on a torker works for me, and actually would help the air gap a lot. That would help the carb size as then each cylinder can pull on all 4 barrels.

The basics are there, depends on how far you want to go. I would think the intake and some tuning should get 10's. Then more cam, converter, and some head work should run into the low 10's.

I run a stock air cleaner with a 3"x10" K&N with a 10" top so it's wide open. Also I have a 1" plastic 4 hole spacer and timing is locked down at 39 degree's. It has a good launch as it easily pulls the drivers tire sometimes both. Also I have a 110 Mallory electric pump with 1/2" fuel line.

You might try a taller gear, 3.73 or maybe even 3.54's.

My Mercury has 3.08 gears, 26x10.5" slicks and has gone 10.03@136mph in a 3350lb car ( 3600lb race weight ).

Trade the 4 hole spacer for an open, should be about 10hp, and a torker would be another 15. The open will make the carb think it's bigger. The 10" filter is a bit small, try a pass without it.

Ken is right on put a torker on it a bigger cam and 8'' converter with 5200-5600. and it will run 10s easy.
