Back in the day, it was not uncommon to replace just the lifters, without replacing the camshaft as well, especially if the car was still under warranty [mostly 12 months/12k miles]. Usually done if there were noisy lifters.

Buzzman72...void where prohibited, your mileage may vary, objects in mirror may be closer than they appear, and alcohol may intensify any side effects.

More than likely if the lifters are worn, the cam is ruined. Sad consequence of changes in oil composition. If you pull the lifters, and they are not dished on the bottom, cam might be OK. But in that event the old lifters are probably ok too. What exactly are you trying to accomplish, why do you think you need new lifters?

bass boat, I was told I had a noisy lifter, so I have pulled the lifters on the passenger side and that is when I also found 2 bent push rods. But looking at the lifters, I cannot tell if they are bad on not?

Bass boat, you ask me what am I trying to accomplish, well I am trying to get my javelin back on the road. I have had blowby since I bought the car 5 years ago, and I am to assume that means a bad piston ring, but then I developed a top end noise, and I was told it was a noisy lifter, well long story short, I pulled the carb, intake, and valley pan and and where I am at now. Also, when I pulled the intake off, I noticed it was a 2 barrel intake but I have a 2 barrel Edelbrock/weber carb on it. So I am also trying to purchase the matching intake for that carb. Seems like I keep taking 1 step foward and 2 steps back.

When you get the new push rods compare the length to the old ones. Replacement push rods are over the map for length. Don't trust any of them as being the right ones.
