FYI Looking for information on front springs and found this site:http://www.stengelbros.com/suspension-springs/leaf-springs/passenger-car-auto-leaf-springs/american-motors-amc-leaf-springs/amc-javelin-amx-leaf-springs/ Had a Canadian truck shop do mine, very happy with work and price vs replacement.

I need to order a set and am very frustrated at what Eaton wants for theirs. I looked at Stengel Bros as well, and their specs at least from an arch and load perspective are quite different from what ESPO says. I have not ordered a set yet but need to and would like to get a 1 inch lift over stock. I do not know what the stock spec for 70 HD leaf springs were but would sure like to know. Here is the response I received from Laura at SpringsNThings for their 70 AMX HD springs: The springs are a 5-leaf spring. They measure 2-1/2 X 22-13/16 X 30-3/16 . The two measurements are centerbolt to center of front and centerbolt to center of rear following the arch. Stock arch is 4 5/8. With a 1" lift these would have more arch though. The books list it as a 550 load. It is specifically for a 70 AMX HD.

The spring clamps on ESPO springs are crappy and don't look much like the factory clamps. I did not keep my Rambler American long enough to see if that they sagged, do I won't comment on that. I will not buy from ESPO again. Joe

I know you are both right, I just hate to fork over almost $800 shipped vs $400 shipped. Already upside down on this car anyway, so what the heck might as well do it right.

Espo has a well earned poor reputation for AMC leaf springs. $800 is much cheaper than the $400 you spend now, and the $800 you will need to spend on good springs anyway.

I put Eaton springs under my 70 and it sits perfect, the ride is EXCELLENT. It handles well with them. I like how it sits to this day and I put them in over ten years ago.

I put Eaton springs under my car in 1989 and they still sit right. Take that how you like.

Had Espo leafs on my '69 AMX, rear sat much to high. Too much arch and poor ride quality.
I just swapped them out for split mono leafs. Haven't driven it yet though. -Steve- |
