Still looking for where all the hoses go. There is a black canister on the aft side of the left front panel. Is that the canister? This is like building a puzzle with no idea what the outcome should look like.

I had that same carb on my 304 for years. Its starts out ok but after about 20k miles it runs rich. Try leaning out the gas and adjusting the float in the bowl. lean it out till just right before it starts to die on you then back it back heavy again. Then adjust the float to compensate for the low gas fuel mix. Then adjust the idle up to about 800-1000 rpm. This will get you the same HP at idle as running heavy fuel at low idle or light fuel at a higher idle. Unless you have a stroked out motor or supercharger or something the 600 cfm is a little too much for anything less than the 401 in my opinion.
