I usually tap the holes (about a 6-32), then use short screws with red locktite.

I use a #8-32 bottoming tap on mine then use lock-tite and button head screws. The holes are real shallow and most taps cannot get enough threads before bottoming out. Thus the need for a bottoming tap.

Locktite is wonderful stuff but does
melt at high temps. The heat stove
cross over will melt it.

I have roll form tapped rivet holes
and trimmed the screws to seize the
last threads when they bottom.

Use Locktite it helps, but again can fail
in a high temp environment.

True, but I have no heat crossover.

Smart man, cross overs are for winter cars and anal restorers.

Caution, if you've port matched the intake to ported heads there's a good chance one or more of the rivet holes have been intersected. If so be sure to stuff those holes with silicone before driving in the rivets or you'll suck oil past the rivet. It happened to me and I couldn't figure out why oil was tracking throughout the intake and causing considerable smoking upon startup.
