Castillion grey would look really good, particularly with some type of black accent like what Ray Hatcher did on his car.

_ I love the storys of this cars history.and the have somebody in the family that cares so much about it is amazeing,my dad had one and it was a very special car.I enjoyed working on it with my dad and older brother.sad to say I lost my mom and dad and older brother in the last 4 years.and we did talk about building another ambo or two,I am also wanting to now build one with my 7 year old son.but also write a story about the hole build and story of the unmarked un none legendary interceptor witch was a unknown well keep secret for a select few police departments who orderd them, they where only known as the highspeed high pursuit Interceptors, that could not only chase down anything on the road but out accelerate and over power the big bad musclecars of the time.they where order just like the black and white ambos and matadors marked police cars but then there 401 motors where beefed up with what was only known as the red X cams and they where the unmarked police interceptors.there is even a legendary story about a new mexico police department borrowing one from a texas high patrol back in the 70s witch was a few hundred miles away and some guys in texas had shot and killed a texas cop and then where being chased hundreds of miles in to NM and they where in some kind of soup up camero where then an off duty patrol man in NM On his way home heard the chase on his radio called from his drive at home and took joined the chase except it was about 6o miles from where he lived.he not only chased them down but forced them off the road and shot and killed the driver but also arrested the passenger who was the shooter ,14 mins was all it took.the investagation concluded the the officer in his borrowed 72 interceptor hit speeds of 17o ,the cop who was shot in texas was from the station the car was borrowed from.

John
Welcome to the forum. It would be great to see you end up with this car and build it into something with special meaning for both you and your son.

Hey Dan, what color is that? It almost looks like Dodge "Intense blue".

Here's another chapter in the 73 Ambassador's book.

My sister borrowed my flatbed to take her Marlin home - so...I had an empty trailer to deadhead all the way back to Flagstaff. The brilliant idea hit both Rick and I at the same time - why not load the 73 up and bring her back with me?  So, we had it all lined up to go - it was going to be one of those occasions when we pull the car up on the trailer using the tow vehicle (it's how we loaded the 65 and the Wagoneer before they were running).  We measured the width of the car and the width of the trailer.  There was one inch of clearance on each side (my trailer has rail sides).  We opted to NOT try this.  If Rick had been with me (he was home in Flagstaff holding down the homestead), I would have gone for it - he's really good at loading cars this way.  Me?  Well, I've done it, but they don't always end up perfectly straight, and anything less than perfectly straight would have resulted in those uncreased sides getting creased...SO...the 73 is still sitting in her carport, safe and sound, right next to the 66 Marlin.

She looks good, BTW.  I really think it wouldn't take much to get it running - which was why we wanted to bring her back here.  The down side of having her here is we don't have a covered place to park her - so it was sort of a six of one, half a dozen of another deal.  On one hand, having the car in Flagstaff would let us get it running, but on  the other hand, it would have to sit out in the weather.

So...for now...it's in its safe and dry carport.

When Matt and I get bored, we try to figure out interesting paint combos for the Ambo.  It looks like Foose isn't going to take us up on the offer to let him Overhaul the car....drat.  i think he could have had something pretty unique to work on. Anyway...we've sort of decided the original color - Pewter Silver - works best - but we would add a black vinyl (or, better - crinkle paint) top. I found a picture of a beautiful copper tan one from a Good Guys show (does it belong to anyone here?), removed a bunch of people and cars from the background, added the orignal blue and gold CA plate, and tweaked the color to a pewter shade, then a blue metallic, and finally, a steel blue metallic. How does the big girl look? Maybe wire wheels will be the next Photoshop addition. I think I'll see what Zio, the master of Photochopping, can do..
