the TSM can tell you what year, but you need a bunch of them. I can tell you that it will be a 1972-78. providing it wasn't out of a Jeep which would be '80-91.   Alot of torque converters are advertised as 2500 stall....problem is the engine, not the TC.   A 727 is a 727. most parts are the same. 401 727s have 4 pin planets and few more clutches, and otherwise its the same.

Yea, depends on the torque output of the engine.
A smaller torque number means lower stall.
You may need to move up to 3,000-3,500 stall to get what your particular combo needs.

Best bet is to talk to whoever you want to buy from, if they can't talk you through getting what you want don't buy from them!

I would talk to a converter builder regarding a stall converter. As stated the engine in front of the converter has a bunch to do with the stall of a converter. I would recommend pulling the pump and replacing the pump bushing, o-ring and gasket as well as the front seal. I cant tell you how many times I have seen just the front seal replaced and it still leaks. All 727s use the same 4 parts to seal the front. If you want to drive to Broomfield for parts I can get them for you. Or if you want help sealing the front let me know.

The offer above assumes you live in Loveland CO

7600 is when it was made, 6000 is 1979. So I think your 727 was out of a Jeep and converted to 2wd. AMC did not use 727s in cars after 1978.......

tsm= technical service manual.  Year specific and model specific many times.
Eg Gremlin/hornet 1973,  Eagle 1982  etc.

i bought it back in 04 from a trans shop that had been around for 35 years,my mom went to school  with the guy so thats why i bought it.it appeared to be a 4 x4,no tail shaft.bolted to my np 208,no issues.besides every seal is leaking now.all the converters ive seen have the starter gear attached to the converter, mine is a separate piece.just looked into it and its toast, the new starter gear is shot too.another couple hundred bucks down the tube, damn my luck.thanks again for tips.

Around '87, when Jeep went to XJ style starter, the converter bolt pattern and flexplate changed to even spacing as well. The teeth of the ring gear moved 3/8" closer to the motor too.
