Hello everyone! NG here. own a 1969 AMX....... so,,, how hot are your brakes getting at normal use? Mine seem to be unsually hot. I have replaced or rebuilt the entire system, adjusted and re-adjusted.... I use the hands on method for temp evaluation. thanks

Breaks can be 300°F on up depending on average use with slotted or open spoke wheels. I bet 100 more in steel wheel setup. I would not attempt touching breaks until a good 1/2 hour or more of non use.

Ha!

300° won't catch you on fire, a light wisp of smoke from your finger tips being scorched... until 500° is reached you may see some smoke if you have tattered oily rags against your brakes. Under heavy racing conditions 1500° + is common and can get glowing red. A wonderful warning sign to keep your cloths from bursting into flame.
