What size tyres are people running on their hornets?
I'm looking to get a new set for mine. My rims are 14x7 and my current tyres are 215 65 r14. I get a little scrub at full lock. Reading up on the forums seems like 205 70 r14 is a popular configuration. Would it be dumb to go that on the front and 225 70 R14 on the rear for a bit meatier look? I'm liking the look of the BF Goodrich Radial T/A with the white lettering |

Mine has 14inch wheels with 215 on the front and 245 on the rear. I could fit 265's possibly on the rear but I think it would look too wide compared to the front whereas the 245's seem to make the 215's look wider at the front and are proportioned to each other. Too skinny a tire on the front of Hornet's doesn't look real flash (unless they are original) but the wider the better on the rear although I think if you ran 265's you have to step up the front but some scrubbing will almost certainly occur. I have a photo of mine back in the day when it was my daily driver with the 14 inch 215's on the front and some borrowed for the day 15inch 295's on the rear and somehow they fitted (just the right offset I suppose) and it looked tough. Style of wheel is real hard to pick for the Hornet's too I reckon but that's another story.

Lisas old Hornet,245 50 14 front,275 60 15 rear, don't remember it scrubbing much, but scrubbing is just letting you know your tyres are big enough.Wheel offset obviously more important as you go bigger.

I'm at 205/50ZR17 on the front and 225/55ZR17 on the back. Fits fine. Once I swap in the 401 motor I'll drop the front just a little.

For the 14X7 size, 235/60R14 and 215/60R14 fits. I have a set of 255/40ZR17's on the rear of one of my cars, and they fit fine using a 17X9 wheel. I haven't driven around with the 235/45ZR17 fronts, so I'm still going to have to find out if they will clear or not. They do in the garage steering lock to lock, but I need to get some street time with them to see how they do over bumps.
