Hooker AMC was located at 118 West Pecan Street, Sherman, Texas 75090, and was owned by 2 brothers, A. R. Hooker and Howard C. Hooker.
AMC Dealer Number: 22-2392
The business started in January 1974, when the Hooker Brothers purchased the dealership from Mr. Jim Pollard, who had been a Nash/Rambler Dealer in Sherman, Texas since 1950.
Hooker AMC was one of the smaller AMC Dealerships, having a total staff of 7, including the brothers, who were the salesmen.
In 1978, Hooker AMC relocated to a larger facility at 1301 Highway 75 South, Sherman, TX 75090, and remained there until 1981, when the business closed.
In 1975, Mr. Jim Pollard passed away after having an accident on Hwy 75 in his 1970 Ambassador,
it was determined that he had a heart attack.
Mr. Howard C. Hooker, who I bought my wife's 1974 Javelin from, passed away on Nov. 8, 2007.

I wish I were old enough to remember any AMC dealers.  I'm pretty sure Jim Pollard is the same Pollard family who owns a large Ford dealership in Lubbock, TX.

Red, I do know that there was a Jim Pollard Motors in 1973, located at 121 North Crockett Street in Sherman, Texas.  Jim Pollard Motors was the AMC Dealer at this time.  In Early 1974, the Hooker Brothers bought out Pollard Motors, and moved the location to 118 West Pecan in Sherman, and the business became Hooker AMC.

I love reading AMC history like this.  Do you ever get down to Eddie Stakes's place?  He should definitely be an official AMC historian.

Red,
I have bought several parts from Eddie, but never been by his place or meet him.
His website has alot of historial information.
My daughter lives in Friendswood, Texas, which is a suburb of Houston.
My wife and I have plans to move down to that area in the near future,
and hopefully I will get a chance to visit with him and pick his brain about AMC.
