If you want to know where the 1970 AMX/Javelin Hood scoop originally came from, get behind the wheel of a 1958/59/60 Thunderbird. They look exactly the same thru the windshield. Thank Chuck Mashigan, He worked for Ford in the 50's before he worked for Chrysler, and later on for AMC. He's personally responsible for the Baby Birds Porthole window, and the rear 1/4 AMX circle emblem.

Adding  another oddity to the conversation I'm told on good authority that the front turn signal lenses where inspired by a rather buxom female secretary at American Motors and designed in her honor by Dick Teague. take a good look at one and you will see what I mean. LRDaum

A little off topic but here is my 69 Javelin hood. The VIN was never registered for the road until 2015 when I went to licence it (what a pain that was). From the bottom it looks like it was planned for AMX inserts but that did not happen until 1970. When stripped this is a steel hood. The 1970 Javelin and AMX hoods are longer. Who and why are still a question but I liked it and kept it. Being a 00 body code car I assume it was special order or modified for some reason.
If anybody has seen this before I would like to know.
